If budget is a consideration, Audio Technica ATH M20X offers good sound quality at a significantly lower cost than the Sony WF1000XM5, with strong sound characteristics for music and TV. However, these are wired over-ear headphones, which may not be as portable or convenient as the Sony earbuds, and they lack features like a microphone, active noise cancellation, and wireless connectivity. In contrast, the Sony WF1000XM5 earbuds are wireless with active noise cancelling, better for calls, meetings, and air travel, and have an accompanying app for customization, but they come at a premium price. The Sony's also provide more comfort and portability, an important consideration if you're on the move frequently. Give Feedback

Soundguys

Jasper Lastoria | September 2023
"Audio-Technica positively defies what you can expect for around $50. Ultimately, Audio-Technica did not design the ATH-M20x to go on the subway with you. It’s for the budget-conscious, do-it-yourself producer, podcaster, or studio that needs to buy tracking cans in bulk. If you don’t need the most deluxe, comfortable headphones, maybe you’ll like the ATH-M20x for its spartan functionality. The headphones are aimed at giving you the minimum requirements without it feeling like a sacrifice."

Sound Guys

Harley Maranan | July 2023
"The Sony WF-1000XM5 is among the best noise canceling earbuds currently on the market, and they aren’t cheap. These earbuds aren’t the best choice for budget-conscious listeners. But if you prioritize active noise cancelation, sound quality, and extensive software support, the WF-1000XM5 is worth its premium price tag."
