LG A1 (OLED) vs Samsung Q80C (LCD)

The LG A1 OLED excels in movie watching due to its perfect contrast and superior black uniformity, which are critical for cinematic experiences, alongside solid performance in colors and viewing angles. Comparatively, the Samsung Q80C LCD falls short in these aspects, with lower contrast and black uniformity, though it does have a satisfactory color volume and viewing angles, making it less ideal for movies.

The LG A1 OLED TV delivers smoother motion with excellent response times, making it very good for watching fast-paced sports, along with having good reflection handling and wider viewing angles. On the other hand, the Samsung Q80C LCD TV, with its fair response times and poorer reflection handling, is less suited for sports due to more noticeable blur during fast movement and reduced visibility in bright conditions.

The LG A1 has an OLED screen with a lower refresh rate of 60Hz, which may not be as smooth for fast-paced gaming, but it boasts an excellent response time and the best input lag, making it responsive for gaming. The LG A1 OLED delivers very good colors out of the box and offers a very good color gamut, which enhances the vibrancy and variety of colors in cartoons and animation. On the other hand, the Samsung Q80C LCD also provides good colors out of the box with a good color gamut, but may not match the color richness and pure blacks provided by the OLED technology in the LG A1.

The LG A1 excels in upscaling and SDR brightness despite its fair SDR brightness score, providing clear images for TV programs, and its OLED screen ensures deep blacks and a wide color gamut, enhancing the viewing experience. The Samsung Q80C, with its very good SDR brightness, is better suited for well-lit environments, and while its local dimming isn't as advanced as the LG's, its good upscaling still makes it a solid choice for watching news and talk shows.

The LG A1 OLED struggles in bright rooms due to its fair SDR and HDR brightness levels, and while it handles reflections very well, it's just not as capable of overcoming ambient light compared to the Samsung Q80C LCD, which has very good SDR and good HDR brightness, making it better suited for well-lit environments despite having poor reflection handling. Additionally, while contrast, color volume, and color gamut are important for picture quality and are excellent on the LG A1, the higher brightness of the Samsung Q80C plays a crucial role in maintaining picture clarity in sunlight or bright interior lighting.
