If you're looking for a more budget-friendly option, the Insignia F20 2024 is significantly cheaper. However, it generally offers poor performance across the board, with only fair gray uniformity and good viewing angle being its notable aspects, making it suitable for casual content consumption in undemanding situations. On the other hand, the Sony X80K, while more expensive, provides better overall picture quality, very good gaming experience, and good performance when watching sports or in bright rooms. It also has lower input lag and significantly better motion processing, colors, and sound quality, ideal for a diverse range of content from movies to news. Additionally, the Sony model supports various HDR formats including Dolby Vision, which enhances the viewing experience for compatible content. If you often watch in bright rooms or care about picture fidelity and additional features like HDR, the Sony X80K would be a better choice. Give Feedback

Tom's guide

Matthew Murray | February 2023
"The Sony Bravia X80K is an inexpensive LCD TV that turns out pleasing visuals and is armed with a number of other desirable features. Sony’s robust internal processing, results in generally better picture quality than you’ll usually get for this price. In practice, the X80K is satisfying to watch. You’re not going to get as sumptuous a picture as you may with other TVs from Sony or other companies, but we didn’t encounter anything that looked bad on it."

About Insignia

Insignia is an in-house brand from BestBuy. It offers a range of TV sets that are lower-end and smaller size. They are manufactured in China by Hisense, which is another TV brand. Insignia TVs use Amazon's Fire OS as the smart TV software, providing users with a highly user-friendly experience.

About Sony

Sony stands as a highly experienced and widely trusted TV manufacturer, earning a reputation that surpasses all others. A Japanese company, Sony has been making TVs for far longs than it has been making Playstation game consoles. Sony's high-end TVs are often regarded as the ultimate choice for videophiles, representing the epitome of quality, albeit at a premium price point. Renowned for their advanced and precise motion handling, as well as their cutting-edge local dimming algorithms, Sony consistently delivers unparalleled performance in these areas. They include Google TV software with all their TV sets, which grants access to the largest selection of apps available and they also include Bravia Core which is a movie streaming platform specifically for Sony TVs that offers higher picture quality by using more bandwidth.
