If you prefer a TV that offers a premium picture quality, especially for movies and immersive gaming, and don't mind spending more, the Sony A80K OLED is a great option. It has excellent dark room performance due to its perfect blacks, wide viewing angles, and vivid colors. On the other hand, if you're looking for a TV that performs well in bright rooms and is usually less expensive, the Hisense U8G LCD may suit you better. It provides a bright display which combats glare well. However, its picture quality might not match the Sony, particularly in terms of perfect blacks and viewing angles. The Hisense U8G is also a strong contender for gaming, but the Sony A80K has slight advantages in gaming performance and picture quality which gamers might appreciate. Keep in mind that the Sony A80K boasts better sound quality, but the Hisense U8G is no slouch in this department and could still meet the needs of most customers. Both have a 120Hz refresh rate and support for advanced gaming features, making them suitable for modern gaming needs. Give Feedback

USA Today

Michael Desjardin | December 2022
"It’s a high-end TV through and through something that becomes clear the moment you glance at its stunning picture. The A80K’s surgically precise contrast control is likely the first thing you’ll notice about its picture ... every piece of content looks better when this amount of precision is available. Color accuracy is another strong suit; the A80K features fantastic out-of-the-box color accuracy in the Custom picture mode."

About Hisense

Hisense, a Chinese TV manufacturer, entered the US market in approximately 2011 and has since acquired TV divisions from various companies such as Toshiba, Sharp, Hitachi, and NEC. Currently ranking as the fourth largest vendor in terms of sales volume, Hisense aims to capture a wide range of TV budget segments. They offer exceptional value with TVs that often outperform their competitors at similar price points, making them a compelling choice for consumers. In the US, they use Google TV as their smart TV software which provides the largest app selection and a very modern user interface, however it is not as user friendly as the software from other vendors.

About Sony

Sony stands as a highly experienced and widely trusted TV manufacturer, earning a reputation that surpasses all others. A Japanese company, Sony has been making TVs for far longs than it has been making Playstation game consoles. Sony's high-end TVs are often regarded as the ultimate choice for videophiles, representing the epitome of quality, albeit at a premium price point. Renowned for their advanced and precise motion handling, as well as their cutting-edge local dimming algorithms, Sony consistently delivers unparalleled performance in these areas. They include Google TV software with all their TV sets, which grants access to the largest selection of apps available and they also include Bravia Core which is a movie streaming platform specifically for Sony TVs that offers higher picture quality by using more bandwidth.
