The MSI Katana 15 is a more expensive option with better performance for tasks like gaming and engineering due to its dedicated Nvidia RTX 4060 graphics and larger 15.6-inch display. It also has more storage but is heavier, which may affect portability. The MSI Modern 14 is less expensive, lighter, and offers better battery life, making it more portable and suitable for general use or business tasks. However, it has less powerful integrated graphics, less storage, and a smaller 14-inch screen, but still shares the same amount of RAM. Give Feedback

The MSI Katana 15 has a better screen than the MSI Modern 14 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, and content creation.
For general use, both the MSI Katana 15 and the MSI Modern 14 offer screens that provide adequate resolution and brightness, making them suitable for tasks like browsing and watching videos, although some users may desire more vivid displays with higher resolutions. In engineering and design, the coverages of color gamuts such as DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB are crucial for accurate color representation; these laptops have fair screens for these applications, indicating that they can handle most tasks but professionals in color-sensitive work might require displays with broader color ranges for precise work. However, for gaming and 3D applications where visual fluidity is key, the poor screen quality highlights a lower refresh rate which renders these laptops less ideal for fast-paced games or smooth 3D rendering, and users focused on these tasks might prefer laptops with higher refresh rates and better panel types.

How the MSI Katana 15 and the MSI Modern 14 compare to other laptops
"The MSI Katana 15 B12 combines a Gen12 CPU with an RTX 4050, which is actually not a bad idea for a budget gamer. The CPU is anything but bad and the GPU in the Katana 15 proves to be significantly more efficient than last year's models. However, our main point of criticism for budget gamers is the price: while you can get budget laptops with RTX 3060 from around US$800, you pay a whole US$1,499.99 here! The efficiency advantages of the RTX 4050 do not justify this price premium."
Alexander Tozzi, Ryan Lim, and John Peroramas | October 2023
"The MSI Modern 14 is okay for school use. It's very compact, so it's easy to carry around. It has a sharp display, a spacious keyboard, and a reasonably large touchpad. Its Intel 13th Gen CPU and integrated graphics can handle general productivity tasks like text processing and web browsing; however, don't expect to do anything intensive like 3D modeling or physics simulations. Unfortunately, the battery lasts less than five hours of light use, and the display doesn't get bright enough to combat glare."
