The MSI GF65 Thin is more affordable, lighter, and offers decent performance for general use and gaming. However, its lower specs mean it isn't ideal for the most demanding tasks. The MSI Raider GE78, while more expensive and heavier, delivers high performance for intensive engineering work, 3D rendering, machine learning, and top-tier gaming, and it comes equipped with a better screen and longer battery life. If you prioritize high performance and advanced features for professional or gaming uses, despite the extra cost and reduced portability, the Raider GE78 stands out; otherwise, for everyday tasks and lighter gaming, the GF65 Thin provides good value. The MSI Raider GE78 is very good for general use, while the MSI GF65 Thin is only fair.
The MSI GF65 Thin is rated fair for general use due to its modest CPU, half the RAM, less storage, and a lower-quality screen compared to the MSI Raider GE78, which has a high-performance CPU, ample RAM, four times the storage space, and a superior screen quality providing a much sharper and vibrant user experience. Moreover, the Raider GE78, while offering better battery life, is less portable and heavier than the GF65 Thin, making the latter a more travel-friendly option despite its inferior specifications.

The MSI Raider GE78 is best in class for gaming and AI, while the MSI GF65 Thin is only fair.
The MSI GF65 Thin, with its RTX 3060 GPU and a refresh rate of 144Hz, is a capable choice for gaming and 3D work, but the MSI Raider GE78 takes performance up a notch with its more advanced RTX 4090 GPU and a higher refresh rate of 240Hz, alongside a superior CPU, the Intel i9-13980HX, which is pivotal for intensive tasks. The screen quality on the Raider GE78 is also notably better, making it the best choice for gaming and 3D applications, although it comes with decreased portability due to its larger size and weight.

The MSI Raider GE78 is excellent for engineering and design, while the MSI GF65 Thin is only fair.
The MSI GF65 Thin is good for engineering and design because it has a capable i5 processor, a solid RTX 3060 GPU, and a clear IPS display, making it a balance of performance and portability. On the other hand, the MSI Raider GE78 is excellent for demanding engineering tasks, featuring a top-tier i9 processor, powerful RTX 4090 GPU, and a superior display, but it is heavier and less portable.

The MSI Raider GE78 has a better screen than the MSI GF65 Thin for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
The GF65 Thin's screen is adequate for everyday tasks like browsing and watching videos due to its resolution and brightness, but for engineering and design, its limited color gamut doesn't represent colors as accurately as a professional might need. The Raider GE78's screen, with its higher resolution and brightness, offers a crisp and vibrant display that benefits both general use and detail-oriented work such as CAD and graphic design, thanks to its wider color gamut. However, both models have screens with lower refresh rates, which means they don't deliver the smooth visuals required for high-end gaming and 3D rendering, where fast motion is common.

"The MSI GF65 Thin offers a GeForce RTX 3060 on a budget. The MSI GF65 is a relatively inexpensive RTX 3060 laptop and, perhaps not coincidentally, it also comes with a slower-than-average RTX 3060 GPU. Other laptops we've tested thus far with the same GPU are about 10 to 15 percent faster. CPU performance is also slightly slower than average unless if users decide to enable Cooler Boost mode. Colors, black-white response times, Thunderbolt, and DisplayPort are either average or completely omitted. Gamers who want to maximize performance-per-dollar without sacrificing RAM or SSD upgradeability will find the lightweight MSI GF65 attractive."
"Performance-wise, the GE78 offers a significant boost over the GE77 for just slightly higher power consumption. You'll have to get the RTX 4080 or 4090 configurations to see the performance advantages, however, as the RTX 4070 is closer in performance to the older RTX 3080 Ti. In terms of design, some users might prefer the 16:9 minimalistic look of the older GE77 over the 16:10 retro-inspired GE78 and vice versa. We wouldn't call one better than the other in terms of aesthetics, but we'll give the edge to the GE78 for its stronger hinges and larger keys and clickpad."
