The Lenovo LOQ 16 is good for gaming and AI, while the Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 13" is only fair.
The Lenovo LOQ 16 is deemed good for gaming and 3D because it has a more powerful Nvidia RTX 4050 graphics card and a higher screen refresh rate at 144Hz, enhancing visuals and gameplay fluidity. In contrast, the Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 13" offers a fair gaming experience with its integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics and a standard 60Hz refresh rate, but it compromises on GPU performance and smoothness in dynamic scenes.

The Lenovo LOQ 16 has a better screen than the Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 13" for gaming and AI, and software development, while the Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 13" has a better screen for general use, and engineering and design.
For general use, both the Lenovo LOQ 16 and the Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 offer screens with suitable resolution and brightness, making text clear and colors vivid for everyday tasks like browsing and video streaming. Their high color accuracy and support for broader color gamuts meet the needs of engineering and design work, where precise color representation is crucial. However, for gaming and 3D applications, their lower refresh rates lead to less fluid motion, which is less optimal compared to laptops with higher refresh rates tailored for these activities.

How the Lenovo LOQ 16 and the Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 13" compare to other laptops
"Gaming laptops with an RTX 4060 are available starting from about 1,000 Euros (~$1,060), even in 16-inch format. For the supposedly affordable Lenovo LOQ 16 (1,500 Euros, ~$1,591), the manufacturer particularly saves in the equipment and materials compared to the more expensive Legion series. In addition, the LOQ is slightly heavier and more bulky. What remains is anything but a laptop full of difficult compromises. Instead, this is a more than solid gaming laptop that focusses on the 3D performance.Q is slightly heavier and more bulky."
"The Surface Laptop 5 remains afloat as a solid machine. It's just not one that stands out in any particular way. Just like the last one. The biggest upgrade were some new components, but they perform in the same range as other laptops with them, and frequently at the bottom of that range. I suspect Microsoft's settings are very conservative to help keep cooling and battery life within reason in the older chassis design."
