If you tend to perform intensive tasks such as gaming, 3D rendering, or machine learning, the Lenovo Legion Slim 7 16" is the better option as it comes with a powerful AMD Ryzen processor and Nvidia graphics. However, it's less portable due to its larger size and heavier weight. On the other hand, if portability and daily productivity tasks are your priorities, and you prefer a laptop with a higher-resolution touchscreen, the Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 13" is lighter and more compact, which makes it easier to carry around, though its performance for demanding applications won't match the Lenovo. The Lenovo Legion Slim 7 16" is very good for gaming and AI, while the Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 13" is only fair.
The Lenovo Legion Slim 7 16", equipped with an Nvidia RTX 4060 GPU and a high screen refresh rate of 240Hz, is great for gaming and 3D, offering powerful graphics performance and smooth visuals. In contrast, the Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 13" has an Intel i7-1255U Iris Xe GPU and a standard refresh rate of 60Hz, making it only fair for gaming and 3D as it provides less graphical power and lower screen fluidity.

The Lenovo Legion Slim 7 16" is very good for engineering and design, while the Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 13" is good.
The Lenovo Legion Slim 7 packs a higher-performing CPU and GPU, making it well-suited for demanding engineering and design tasks, while its larger and higher-quality screen enhances visual work; however, it's heavier and less portable than the Microsoft Surface Laptop 5, which offers commendable performance and a high-quality screen in a more portable package, but with a less powerful GPU and smaller screen, making it slightly less ideal for intensive tasks.

The Lenovo Legion Slim 7 has a better screen than the Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 13" for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, software development, and content creation.
For general use, the Lenovo Legion Slim 7's higher resolution and brighter display provide crisper text and vivid images, enhancing the viewing experience, while the Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 offers enough sharpness and brightness for daily tasks like web browsing and document editing. In engineering and design, the Lenovo excels with its wider color gamut coverage, ensuring more accurate color reproduction critical for detailed design work, whereas the Surface Laptop 5's color range is sufficient but not as extensive. However, for gaming and 3D, the Lenovo's screen falls short due to its lower refresh rate, resulting in less fluid motion, whereas the Surface Laptop, despite similar limitations, is not primarily targeted towards those high-refresh-rate scenarios.

"The Lenovo Legion Slim 7 is a slim Legion notebook that is just as excellent with Nvidia & Intel. However, the Legion Slim 7i slightly sullied by lacklustre battery life. You get a slim aluminium chassis, great input devices, decent port selection, fast high-quality WQXGA display and great performance. Supporting Thunderbolt 4 is one advantage of the Intel/Nvidia model tested in this review. Moreover, this variant has slightly higher CPU performance as well as better GPU performance in certain applications (e.g. CUDA-based apps). The Lenovo Legion S7i is thin, premium and performant – but less efficient than its AMD counterpart."
"The Surface Laptop 5 remains afloat as a solid machine. It's just not one that stands out in any particular way. Just like the last one. The biggest upgrade were some new components, but they perform in the same range as other laptops with them, and frequently at the bottom of that range. I suspect Microsoft's settings are very conservative to help keep cooling and battery life within reason in the older chassis design."
