The Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 is more budget-friendly and tends to be less expensive, making it a better choice if price is a significant concern. It offers modest performance suitable for general use and has a longer battery life, ideal for on-the-go users who need endurance over raw power. On the other hand, the MSI Katana 15, while more expensive, provides higher performance capabilities with a better processor and graphics card, suitable for more intensive tasks like 3D rendering, machine learning, and gaming. The MSI Katana 15 also includes a backlit RGB keyboard, which might be interesting for gamers or users who prefer such aesthetics. However, it has a shorter battery life, which could be a downside for those needing longer unplugged use. Give Feedback

The MSI Katana 15 and Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 are both good for general use, though the MSI Katana 15 is somewhat better.
The MSI Katana 15 outperforms the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 for general use mainly because it has a more robust CPU and double the RAM, which contributes to smoother multitasking and overall performance. Additionally, even though the MSI Katana 15 is slightly heavier and thicker potentially affecting portability compared to the Lenovo, it compensates with a stronger graphics card and more storage, appealing to users needing more power and space for their applications.

The MSI Katana 15 is good for engineering and design, while the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 is only fair.
The MSI Katana 15 is better suited for engineering and design use because it has a more powerful main processor and dedicated graphics card, essential for demanding tasks, along with double the RAM for multitasking and a high-refresh-rate screen which improves visual fluidity. In contrast, the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 offers weaker performance with less capable integrated graphics and half the RAM, which may suffice for lighter workloads, but its lower screen refresh rate and overall inferior hardware make it less ideal for intensive engineering applications.

The MSI Katana 15 has a better screen than the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, and software development.
For general use, both the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 and the MSI Katana 15 offer displays with adequate resolution and brightness, but they may lack the high-quality panels that provide the best viewing experiences. Engineering and design tasks require accurate color representation, so while both laptops might do the job for casual design work, professionals may find the color gamuts of these laptops insufficient for precise work. For gaming and 3D applications, the importance of the refresh rate means the Lenovo and MSI laptops won't be as smooth or responsive as others with higher refresh rates, although they may be serviceable for less demanding games.

How the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 and the MSI Katana 15 compare to other laptops
Olivier Martin, Ryan Lim, and John Peroramas | May 2023
"The Lenovo IdeaPad 3i is decent for use as a workstation. Its Intel CPU and integrated graphics can only handle light productivity tasks, not demanding workloads like video editing or 3D graphics. You also can't do any color-critical work because the available displays have a narrow color gamut. It has a good port selection, but its USB-C lacks Thunderbolt 4 support. On the upside, it has a comfortable keyboard and doesn't get hot or loud under load."
"The MSI Katana 15 B12 combines a Gen12 CPU with an RTX 4050, which is actually not a bad idea for a budget gamer. The CPU is anything but bad and the GPU in the Katana 15 proves to be significantly more efficient than last year's models. However, our main point of criticism for budget gamers is the price: while you can get budget laptops with RTX 3060 from around US$800, you pay a whole US$1,499.99 here! The efficiency advantages of the RTX 4050 do not justify this price premium."
