If budget is a concern and you plan to use your laptop primarily for gaming or demanding applications, the IdeaPad Gaming 3 could be a better option as gaming laptops typically offer higher performance graphics and processing power suitable for such tasks. However, if you are looking for a machine that is lighter and more portable for everyday use or work-related tasks, and are willing to invest a bit more, the IdeaPad Slim 5i might be more appropriate. The Slim 5i usually offers better battery life and a sleeker design but may not have the same level of performance as a gaming laptop for graphically intensive tasks. Consider what your primary use for the laptop will be to guide your decision. Give Feedback

The Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 has a better screen than the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5i for general use, gaming and AI, and engineering and design.
The Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 has a display that excels in resolution and brightness, which benefits general use and engineering tasks, but its lower refresh rate isn't ideal for gaming where smooth motion is key. The IdeaPad Slim 5i offers adequate resolution and brightness for everyday tasks and sufficient color accuracy for some engineering and design work, but falls short for gaming and design due to limited color range and sluggish refresh rates. Neither laptop is optimized for 3D applications and gaming, as they lack the high refresh rate preferred for those activities, although they can manage general use and less color-critical engineering work without issue.

The Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 and Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5i are both good for engineering and design.
The Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3, with its dedicated Nvidia RTX 2050 graphics card and AMD Ryzen 7 processor, is well-equipped for engineering and design tasks that require strong graphics and computation capabilities, though it is heavier and has a standard screen aspect ratio and refresh rate. In contrast, the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5i's lighter weight and higher screen aspect ratio with an Intel Iris Xe integrated GPU and Intel i5 processor make it suitable for less graphically intensive engineering work, offering better portability and a 16:10 screen for more vertical workspace.

How the Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 and the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5i compare to other laptops
"The Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 is one of the most powerful RTX 3050 Ti laptops. If you disregard the mediocre quality of the case in terms of the material and workmanship, Lenovo has created a successful budget gaming laptop with the IdeaPad Gaming. Thanks to high TDPs and constant performance development, the Core i5-12500H and GeForce RTX 3050 Ti are able to show their full power, while in contrast, the (mostly slower) competitors deliver a better battery life. However, hardly any of the alternative laptops are able to reach the image quality of the Gaming 3. Most of the competitors are left behind in terms of the color space and brightness."
"The device is made for average work loads and if your work has a lot to do with online browsing, using apps that are not power-hungry and streaming videos. The looks are really good and the device in itself is not a heavy one. And with Intel 11th-gen Core processor, you might sail through most of your work without complaints."
