The Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" is less expensive and offers a larger screen with a numeric keypad, longer battery life for general use, and quieter operation. However, it's less portable, and not as capable for 3D, machine learning, or engineering tasks. The MSI Summit E16 Flip is more expensive but has superior performance for intensive tasks, a higher quality display with touch functionality, and is more portable due to its smaller screen and lighter weight. It also features better build quality and a backlit keyboard, which might be important for professionals needing a more robust machine for demanding work environments or for use in low-light conditions. The MSI Summit E16 Flip is good for engineering and design, while the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" is only fair.
The Lenovo IdeaPad 3 has a mid-range processor and integrated graphics, which can handle engineering tasks decently, but may not excel in intensive design applications, whereas the MSI Summit E16 Flip offers a more powerful processor paired with a dedicated graphics card, providing better performance necessary for complex engineering software and design work. Additionally, while the IdeaPad 3 has a larger screen with a standard resolution, the Summit E16 Flip boasts a higher-resolution display which can be beneficial for detailed design tasks, although it contributes to the IdeaPad 3 being less portable and having a longer battery life.

The MSI Summit E16 Flip has a better screen than the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
For general use, the Lenovo IdeaPad 3's screen provides clear images and is bright enough for everyday tasks, but the MSI Summit E16 Flip's higher resolution and brightness make for a sharper and more vibrant display. The MSI Summit has superior color gamut coverage essential for accuracy in engineering and design work, giving it the edge over the Ideapad despite its adequate performance. However, both laptops' screens lack the high refresh rates crucial for smooth rendering in 3D applications and gaming, making them less suitable for those specific needs.

How the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" and the MSI Summit E16 Flip compare to other laptops
"The Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" defies expectations. Indeed, it is just a minor upgrade over last year. However, this doesn’t make the laptop any less terrific. It’s got a great performance, courtesy of the Ryzen 5x25U processors. In addition, you get a pretty good battery life. Perhaps, the 2-hour decrease in video playback, compared to last year is not great, but still, 10 hours of Web browsing and 7 hours of video playback is okay for 17-inch notebooks."
"The MSI Summit E16 Flip is a 2-in-1 laptop with pen, 16:10 display, and RTX 3050 Ti. The Summit E16 Flip is a 2-in-1 laptop from the business segment that primarily targets creative users. MSI combines a 16-inch touchscreen in the 16:10 format with a powerful midrange GPU. While the 2-in-1 laptop from MSI isn't meant for everybody, it should definitely attract some followers. The touchscreen display (2,560 x 1,600 pixels) covers the DCI-P3 color space. This is accompanied by stable viewing angles, a good color reproduction, short response times, and a good contrast level."
