The Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" is less expensive and offers solid performance for general use, with decent battery life, making it suitable if you're cost-conscious and need a laptop for everyday tasks. Its larger screen size is great for productivity, though it's less portable due to its size. In contrast, the MSI Raider GE66 is higher in price and aimed at demanding tasks like 3D rendering, machine learning, and intensive gaming, supported by superior CPU and GPU. It provides a higher resolution and refresh rate display for sharper and smoother visuals, which benefits gaming and creative work, but has shorter battery life and is heavier, making it less ideal for frequent travel. The MSI Raider GE66 is very good for engineering and design, while the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" is only fair.
The Lenovo IdeaPad 3, with its AMD Ryzen 5 CPU, Vega 7 GPU, and 8GB of RAM, provides competent but not cutting-edge performance for engineering and design, while the MSI Raider GE66 boasts a significantly more powerful Intel i7 CPU, Nvidia RTX 3070 Ti GPU, and 32GB of RAM, making it far superior for demanding tasks. Additionally, the Raider GE66's higher-resolution display enhances detailed work, but it is also heavier and less portable compared to the IdeaPad 3, which could be a factor for on-the-go users.

The MSI Raider GE66 has a better screen than the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
For general use, both the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 and the MSI Raider GE66 offer sharp images and bright displays, thanks to their panel type and resolution, making text and images clear and easy on the eyes. In engineering and design, the MSI Raider GE66 stands out due to its wider color gamuts, allowing for more accurate color reproduction which is crucial for professional color work. However, for gaming and 3D tasks where fast motion is common, neither are ideal given their lower refresh rates which may lead to less fluid motion and potential screen tearing.

How the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" and the MSI Raider GE66 compare to other laptops
"The Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" defies expectations. Indeed, it is just a minor upgrade over last year. However, this doesn’t make the laptop any less terrific. It’s got a great performance, courtesy of the Ryzen 5x25U processors. In addition, you get a pretty good battery life. Perhaps, the 2-hour decrease in video playback, compared to last year is not great, but still, 10 hours of Web browsing and 7 hours of video playback is okay for 17-inch notebooks."
"The MSI Raider GE66 12UHS notebook passes with flying colors. The GE66 is a high-end notebook with strong performance. The keyboard and trackpad are still very good and score well with precise inputs as well as high build quality. Thanks to a new liquid metal cooling solution, the Intel Core i9 12900HK brings a performance increase of around 50 percent over the predecessor's Intel Core i9 10980HK. The installed graphics card in our device delivers up to 30 percent higher frame rates than the RTX 2070 Super in the MSI GE66 10SFS."
