The Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" offers a larger screen for easier multitasking and a more comfortable viewing experience, which can be advantageous for watching media and working on documents. However, its large size may reduce portability compared to the more compact MSI Prestige 14. If you're prioritizing performance, especially for tasks like 3D modeling, machine learning, or gaming, the MSI Prestige 14 often has more powerful hardware suited for those demands, but it may come at a higher price point. In exchange for its performance, the Prestige 14 could have a shorter battery life than the IdeaPad, which may be a concern if you need to work on the go without frequent access to power. In summary, choose the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 if you prioritize screen size and potentially better battery life, and go for the MSI Prestige 14 if performance and portability are more important. The MSI Prestige 14 and Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" are both only fair for gaming and AI.
The Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" and the MSI Prestige 14 are considered fair for gaming and 3D because they both utilize integrated graphics—the Vega 7 for the IdeaPad and Iris Xe for the Prestige—providing moderate gaming prowess, and they have standard screen refresh rates of 60Hz, which is fine for casual gaming but not optimal for fast-paced games where higher refresh rates can be beneficial. Moreover, the IdeaPad's larger screen may offer a better gaming and content creation experience, although the MSI Prestige's CPU and higher screen quality could provide smoother operation in some applications.

Although they have very similar scores, PerfectRec considers MSI Prestige 14 to be good for engineering and design, while the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" is only fair.
The Lenovo IdeaPad 3 may be less suited for engineering and design due to its less powerful CPU (AMD Ryzen 5 5625U), lower RAM capacity, and a GPU that's less capable for these tasks compared to the MSI Prestige 14, which has a more robust CPU (Intel i5-1240P), double the RAM, and a higher-performing integrated GPU (Intel i5-1240P Iris Xe).

How the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" and the MSI Prestige 14 compare to other laptops
"The Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" defies expectations. Indeed, it is just a minor upgrade over last year. However, this doesn’t make the laptop any less terrific. It’s got a great performance, courtesy of the Ryzen 5x25U processors. In addition, you get a pretty good battery life. Perhaps, the 2-hour decrease in video playback, compared to last year is not great, but still, 10 hours of Web browsing and 7 hours of video playback is okay for 17-inch notebooks."
"The MSI Prestige 14” is excellent for productivity and business use cases, but it is not ideal for creators or visual content editors. The Prestige was able to power through days of email, spreadsheets, and text documents without breaking a sweat and was a joy to use. The additional ports were a breath of fresh air, as most laptops seem to be moving towards just Thunderbolt ports. The security options made signing in effortless, with two quick, more secure, and faster options than even the most complex alphanumeric passcode."
