The Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" is a more cost-effective option with a larger screen size ideal for general use and media consumption, boasting significant battery life and a number pad which may be appealing for productivity tasks. On the other hand, the MSI Katana 15, while more expensive, offers superior performance for 3D, machine learning, and gaming thanks to a higher-end graphics card and processor, alongside more memory and storage. It also includes quality-of-life features like a backlit RGB keyboard and hardware ray tracing support, yet has a lower battery life and smaller screen. Give Feedback

The MSI Katana 15 is good for engineering and design, while the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" is only fair.
The Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" is a fair choice for engineering and design due to its mid-tier CPU and GPU which may struggle with demanding software, and while it has a large screen, the lower RAM may hinder multitasking. The MSI Katana 15, on the other hand, offers a stronger CPU and dedicated GPU suitable for intensive tasks, doubled RAM for better multitasking, and though its screen is smaller, its higher refresh rate and build support better graphic quality and smoother visuals, vital for design work.

The Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" has a better screen than the MSI Katana 15 for general use, and engineering and design, while the MSI Katana 15 has a better screen for gaming and AI.
The Lenovo IdeaPad 3's larger 17" display with higher resolution and brightness offers a comfortable and clearer view for everyday tasks and detailed engineering work, but its lower refresh rate limits its appeal to gamers and 3D professionals. The MSI Katana 15, with a smaller screen and modest resolution and brightness, provides adequate clarity for common tasks and engineering applications, but similar to the IdeaPad, it falls short in the gaming and 3D realm due to a less than ideal refresh rate. Neither laptop excels in color accuracy for professional design, as they lack the wide color gamuts preferred for such tasks.

How the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" and the MSI Katana 15 compare to other laptops
"The Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" defies expectations. Indeed, it is just a minor upgrade over last year. However, this doesn’t make the laptop any less terrific. It’s got a great performance, courtesy of the Ryzen 5x25U processors. In addition, you get a pretty good battery life. Perhaps, the 2-hour decrease in video playback, compared to last year is not great, but still, 10 hours of Web browsing and 7 hours of video playback is okay for 17-inch notebooks."
"The MSI Katana 15 B12 combines a Gen12 CPU with an RTX 4050, which is actually not a bad idea for a budget gamer. The CPU is anything but bad and the GPU in the Katana 15 proves to be significantly more efficient than last year's models. However, our main point of criticism for budget gamers is the price: while you can get budget laptops with RTX 3060 from around US$800, you pay a whole US$1,499.99 here! The efficiency advantages of the RTX 4050 do not justify this price premium."
