The Lenovo IdeaPad 3 14" and MSI Modern 14 have some notable differences despite their similar pricing. The IdeaPad 3 has an AMD Ryzen 5 5500U processor, while the Modern 14 comes with a slightly more recent AMD Ryzen 5 7500U. While both offer integrated graphics, the Modern 14 generally has better performance due to its improved processor. Additionally, the Modern 14 doubles the storage capacity and memory, being equipped with 512 GB of storage and 16 GB of RAM, as opposed to the IdeaPad's 256 GB storage and 8 GB RAM. If storage and performance are crucial for your tasks, the Modern 14 is the better option. However, if you are looking for a device for casual use and these specifications exceed your requirements, the IdeaPad 3 could be a cost-effective choice. Give Feedback

The MSI Modern 14 and Lenovo IdeaPad 3 14" are both only fair for engineering and design, though the MSI Modern 14 is somewhat better.
For engineering and design use where a powerful CPU, plenty of RAM, and a high-quality screen are very important, the MSI Modern 14 stands out with more memory and a higher contrast screen, which may enhance multitasking and visual detail. Although both laptops have similar CPUs and integrated GPUs, which are moderate in power, the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 has less RAM and a lower quality screen but scores higher in battery life and has quieter operating noise, making it suitable for extended use in quieter environments.

For general use, both the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 and the MSI Modern 14 have screens that offer acceptable resolution and brightness, but they may not stand out in terms of sharpness or color vibrancy due to their panel types. When considering engineering and design, their color gamut coverage isn't wide enough to provide the full spectrum of colors professionals in these fields often require for precision work. As for 3D and gaming, their typical 60Hz refresh rates and standard resolutions do not provide the ultra-smooth visual experience that more specialized gaming laptops offer, which might have higher refresh rates and better resolution display options.

Although they have very similar scores, PerfectRec considers MSI Modern 14 to be good for general use, while the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 14" is only fair.
The Lenovo IdeaPad 3 14" offers a fair balance for general use, featuring satisfactory CPU and RAM, screen quality, and keyboard, but falls short with its modest battery life and speaker quality, while the MSI Modern 14 stands out as better for general use due to its superior CPU performance, double the RAM and storage, and better-built quality, despite having slightly less battery longevity. While both laptops are comparable in portability, owning to their 14" screens and similar weight, the MSI Modern 14's better overall performance and quality enhancements justify its more favorable assessment.

How the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 14" and the MSI Modern 14 compare to other laptops
"The low-priced IdeaPad 3 14 delivers on core functionality. Lenovo's IdeaPad 3 14 meets all the basic requirements for an inexpensive office laptop. The matte IPS display is bright enough, the performance is high for the class, and the input devices are rock solid. In addition, the mostly quiet operation including the useful performance modes, cool surface temperatures, easy maintainability as well as expandable working and mass storage all contribute to the IdeaPad 3 14's value proposition."
Alexander Tozzi, Ryan Lim, and John Peroramas | October 2023
"The MSI Modern 14 is okay for school use. It's very compact, so it's easy to carry around. It has a sharp display, a spacious keyboard, and a reasonably large touchpad. Its Intel 13th Gen CPU and integrated graphics can handle general productivity tasks like text processing and web browsing; however, don't expect to do anything intensive like 3D modeling or physics simulations. Unfortunately, the battery lasts less than five hours of light use, and the display doesn't get bright enough to combat glare."
