For a balance of performance and portability with a focus on gaming and engineering tasks, the Lenovo Legion 5 16 (2024) is a strong contender. It offers a high-performance Intel i9 processor and a newer Nvidia RTX 4060 GPU, which will serve well for demanding applications. The 16-inch screen with a 240Hz refresh rate and 16:10 aspect ratio is ideal for fast-paced gaming and provides more vertical space for productivity. However, it's heavier and has a shorter battery life compared to more portable options.
On the other hand, the MSI Raider GE77Hx, while slightly pricier, features a larger 17.3-inch display with a 240Hz refresh rate, making it excellent for gaming and creative work. It has a robust Intel i7 processor and a powerful Nvidia RTX 3070 Ti GPU, ensuring top-tier performance for gaming, 3D rendering, and machine learning tasks. The laptop is equipped with Windows 11 Pro, which may be preferable for business users. However, its larger size and weight make it less portable, and the battery life is notably shorter than the Lenovo.
If you prioritize the latest gaming performance and are less concerned with portability, the MSI Raider GE77Hx is the way to go. However, if you want a more recent GPU and a better balance between performance and the ability to carry your laptop around with slightly better battery life, the Lenovo Legion 5 16 (2024) is the better choice. How the Lenovo Legion 5 16 (2024) and the MSI Raider GE77Hx compare to other laptops
"The MSI Raider GE77 offers a lot of power for a lot of money. The main components consist of a Core i9-12900HX CPU, a GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Laptop GPU (175 watts TGP, 16 GB VRAM), and 64 GB of RAM, which makes for a high overall performance level. The GeForce GPU in particular scores some of the highest scores we have seen from this chip. Both the CPU and the GPU are able to run at continuously high clock speeds. The relatively high heat and noise emissions match our expectations for this device class. With approximately 5.5 to 6.5 hours, the battery life is good for a powerful 4K laptop."
