The HP Pavilion 15 is a budget-friendly option that usually costs less than the Lenovo Legion 5, making it accessible if you're looking to save money. It's suitable for basic tasks due to its lower-tier processor and integrated graphics, and it is lighter which makes it more convenient to carry around. However, if your work involves more demanding tasks like 3D design, machine learning, or gaming, the Lenovo Legion 5 packs a much stronger processor and a dedicated graphics card which will offer substantially better performance. It also has a higher resolution and quality display, but it's heavier and will be less portable. Depending on your priorities, if cost and portability are your main concerns, go with the HP Pavilion 15, but if you need high performance for intensive tasks and a better screen, the Lenovo Legion 5 is the superior choice despite its higher cost and reduced portability. The Lenovo Legion 5 15" is very good for engineering and design, while the HP Pavilion 15 is only fair.
The Lenovo Legion 5 15" is very good for engineering and design use due to its powerful AMD Ryzen 7 processor, high-end Nvidia RTX 4060 GPU, and high-resolution IPS display, which outperform the HP Pavilion 15's less capable Intel i3 processor, integrated graphics, and lower-resolution TN display. Additionally, the Legion 5 has better screen qualities with higher color accuracy and brightness suitable for detailed design work, although it is heavier and less portable than the lighter HP Pavilion 15 which might be more comfortable for on-the-go use.

The Lenovo Legion 5 15" has a better screen than the HP Pavilion 15 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
The HP Pavilion 15's screen may not provide the sharpness, brightness, or vibrant colors you'd want for any tasks, leading to a less satisfying visual experience in daily activities, detail-oriented engineering work, and immersive gaming sessions. The Lenovo Legion 5, on the other hand, offers a much clearer and brighter display that enhances everyday use and design work, but its limitations in refresh rate can detract from the smoothness required for fast-paced gaming and 3D rendering. The screen attributes of these laptops suggest that the Legion 5 is better suited for users prioritizing general and engineering applications, while gamers and 3D artists may seek alternatives.

How the HP Pavilion 15 and the Lenovo Legion 5 15" compare to other laptops
"The HP Pavilion 15 carries a fair amount of power and a sharp display in its handsome slimline shell. It's not perfect, but it's a hard worker. This is wonderfully designed and totes a heck of a lot of desktop power, with the added benefit of a decent webcam and a full-sized keyboard. If you're getting down to business on a budget, it's a great fit."
"The Lenovo Legion 5 15 is an affordable gaming laptop with a lot of power. The new AMD processor Ryzen 7 5800H offers plenty of performance and it is also very efficient. The combination with the fast 130W version of the GeForce RTX 3060 ensures high gaming performance. We also like the fast 165 Hz display with the 1080p resolution. The automatic graphics switching causes some problems with stutters, which are very annoying. If you do not need long battery runtimes, you should definitely deactivate the hybrid graphics mode in Lenovo's Vantage app. The Legion 5 15 is never silent."
