The HP Omen 17 is a better choice if you prioritize gaming or require high performance for tasks like 3D rendering or engineering software; it has a more powerful processor and GPU. However, it's heavier and bulkier, making it less portable than the LG Ultra 16. The LG is more suitable for general use and excellent for on-the-go productivity due to its lighter weight and significantly longer battery life. If budget is a concern, the LG is also typically less expensive. Consider the HP if performance is a must-have and you don't mind the extra weight and shorter battery life, or choose the LG for portability, longer use between charges, and a more budget-friendly option. The HP Omen 17 is excellent for gaming and AI, while the LG Ultra 16 is only fair.
The HP Omen 17 provides a superior gaming and 3D experience, equipped with a more powerful Nvidia RTX 4080 graphics and a high screen refresh rate of 165, enhancing both the visual detail and smoothness of motion, which are critical for these applications. In contrast, the LG Ultra 16 comes with an integrated AMD Vega 8 GPU and a lower screen refresh rate of 60, which offers adequate performance for less demanding gaming and 3D tasks but may not be as immersive or responsive as the HP Omen 17.

The HP Omen 17 has a better screen than the LG Ultra 16 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, and content creation.
The HP Omen 17 offers a higher resolution and brightness, making it suitable for a sharp and vivid display during general tasks and precision work in engineering and design, but its lower refresh rate is a drawback for the fast-paced visuals required in gaming and 3D applications. On the other hand, the LG Ultra 16 provides an adequate viewing experience for general use and engineering tasks with decent resolution and color accuracy but does not excel in either, and similarly falls short for gaming and 3D due to a subpar refresh rate. For both devices, those focused on HDR content creation or high-end gaming may find the screen quality limiting, while users with more standard computing needs will likely find them satisfactory.

The HP Omen 17 and LG Ultra 16 are both good for general use.
The HP Omen 17 is well-suited for general use due to its powerful CPU and GPU, ample RAM and storage, a high-quality screen with good brightness and color coverage, but it is heavier and less portable. On the other hand, the LG Ultra 16, while having sufficient RAM and a quality IPS display suitable for everyday tasks, offers better portability with lighter weight and longer battery life, but it compromises on raw performance compared to the HP, being more suited for non-intensive tasks.

How the HP Omen 17 and the LG Ultra 16 compare to other laptops
"The HP Omen 17 (2022) gaming laptop has a stylish case and hardware with lots of potential. The HP Omen 17 is a fairly unobtrusive gaming laptop. A material combination of plastic and metal gives the case a high stability and a quality surface feel. The unspectacular design is pleasing and is hardly indicative of the laptop's high performance potential. The Intel Core i7-12700H in particular is able to perform well once again. The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti is also strong in the gaming notebook. Demanding games run smoothly in Full HD resolution. The HP Omen 17 is a good gaming laptop that delivers partly excellent performance. But even at this performance level, cheaper alternatives are available."
"Unlike the gram, the Ultra PC isn't designed to be as lightweight as possible. The 16-inch laptop is a whole 400 g (0.88 lb) heavier than its 16-inch gram counterpart partly because its chassis is not made of magnesium. Other than that, the Ultra PC seems like a copy of the gram – but with longer battery life, lower noise levels, and a clean, delicate look."
