The HP Omen 17, being a gaming laptop, offers superior graphics and processing power, which is excellent for gaming, 3D modeling, and video editing but is heavier and may have shorter battery life, making it less portable than the Lenovo ThinkPad T14. The ThinkPad T14, on the other hand, is designed for business users, offering portability, long battery life, and durability, making it ideal for general use and professionals who need a reliable laptop for work and travel but not for intensive gaming or graphics-heavy tasks. If performance for demanding applications is a priority and you don't mind the extra weight and cost, go with the HP Omen 17; if you value portability, battery life, and a lower price, the ThinkPad T14 is a better choice. The Lenovo ThinkPad T14 is very good for general use, while the HP Omen 17 is good.
The HP Omen 17, with its powerful CPU and high-quality screen, excels in performance-intensive tasks but is less portable and has shorter battery life, making it less suitable for on-the-go use compared to the Lenovo ThinkPad T14, which offers a balance of efficient CPU performance, lighter design, longer battery life, and a high-quality keyboard, making it better for general and mobile use. While the Omen's superior RAM is ideal for demanding applications, the ThinkPad's adequate RAM still handles everyday tasks smoothly, and its overall features prioritize comfort and versatility.

The HP Omen 17 and Lenovo ThinkPad T14 are both very good for engineering and design, though the HP Omen 17 is somewhat better.
The HP Omen 17, with its powerful CPU, abundant RAM, high-end GPU, and excellent screen quality, excels in handling demanding engineering and design tasks, but it's less portable and might be noisier under load. The Lenovo ThinkPad T14, while being more portable with a high-quality keyboard and quieter operation, may not match the Omen's performance but still delivers sufficient power for most engineering and design applications.

The HP Omen 17 has a better screen than the Lenovo ThinkPad T14 for general use, gaming and AI, and engineering and design, while the Lenovo ThinkPad T14 has a better screen for content creation, and software development.
For general use, both the HP Omen 17 and Lenovo ThinkPad T14 offer pleasing visuals with sufficient resolution and brightness, making them suitable for daily tasks like browsing and video streaming. During engineering and design work, users will appreciate their good color reproduction, though they may not cover the professional color gamuts as extensively as specialized monitors, somewhat limiting color precision. However, gamers and 3D designers may find the screens lacking due to the lower refresh rates, which can result in less fluid motion and responsiveness during fast-paced scenes or detailed rendering tasks.

How the HP Omen 17 and the Lenovo ThinkPad T14 compare to other laptops
"The HP Omen 17 (2022) gaming laptop has a stylish case and hardware with lots of potential. The HP Omen 17 is a fairly unobtrusive gaming laptop. A material combination of plastic and metal gives the case a high stability and a quality surface feel. The unspectacular design is pleasing and is hardly indicative of the laptop's high performance potential. The Intel Core i7-12700H in particular is able to perform well once again. The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti is also strong in the gaming notebook. Demanding games run smoothly in Full HD resolution. The HP Omen 17 is a good gaming laptop that delivers partly excellent performance. But even at this performance level, cheaper alternatives are available."
"We like a lot about this laptop. It has many ports, with the inclusion of RJ45-Ethernet as a defining feature. WWAN is upgradable for maximum flexibility and the ThinkPad has many security functions. Working with the ThinkPad input devices is a lot of fun, and Lenovo puts in a serviceable Low Power panel. The AMD Ryzen 7 Pro 7840U delivers a great performance and does not drain the battery fast. Fan noise and temperatures are nothing special, but also far away from bad. With the user replaceable keyboard, the ThinkPad T14 Gen 4 has a special feature rarely present on most modern laptops."
