If you need more RAM for intensive engineering tasks or better performance in general use, the HP 17" Laptop with AMD Ryzen 7 would be more appropriate. In contrast, the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" with AMD Ryzen 5 offers a slightly better battery life and weighs less, which could make it more suitable for carrying around. Both are similarly priced with the same screen size and resolution, and neither is designed for intensive gaming. The Lenovo has an edge in noise and heat management but comes with less RAM, which affects performance. Both have ample storage, a number pad on the keyboard, and are recent models equipped with Windows 11 Home. Give Feedback

How the HP 17" Laptop and the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" compare to other laptops
"As far as starter laptops go, the HP Laptop 17 is a sound investment. Sure, it might not be the lightest of options, but what you get for the price is a well-rounded machine that fits multiple niches. Whether it be office duties that require you to multi-task between multiple programs, or study tasks in which you’ll spend hours browsing online, this laptop does it all. Plus, when it's time to unwind, you can watch your favorite shows or movies on a super-wide display. What's best of all is that you can do all this for about half a day on a single charge."
"The Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" defies expectations. Indeed, it is just a minor upgrade over last year. However, this doesn’t make the laptop any less terrific. It’s got a great performance, courtesy of the Ryzen 5x25U processors. In addition, you get a pretty good battery life. Perhaps, the 2-hour decrease in video playback, compared to last year is not great, but still, 10 hours of Web browsing and 7 hours of video playback is okay for 17-inch notebooks."
