The HP 14" Laptop typically costs slightly more and provides half the storage of the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3. Both have 8GB of RAM, but the HP features a Ryzen 5 processor, potentially offering better general use and engineering performance than the Lenovo's Ryzen 3. The Lenovo has a larger screen, includes a touch feature, and boasts a slightly longer battery life. While both have similar weight, the Lenovo is slightly heavier and bulkier. If you prefer a touchscreen with more storage at a lower cost, the Lenovo could be a better option, whereas the HP is preferable for slightly better performance in general and engineering tasks. The Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 has a better screen than the HP 14" Laptop for content creation.
For general use, both the HP 14" Laptop and the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 offer displays that provide adequate clarity and brightness, but they don't boast high resolutions or premium panel types that could improve the viewing experience significantly. In engineering and design, users may find the color accuracy and range lacking because these laptops do not cover advanced color gamuts like DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB, which are crucial for professional color work. When it comes to 3D tasks and gaming, the limited refresh rate of these laptops means they won't be as smooth or responsive as models designed specifically for these high-intensity visual applications, although they still manage to deliver a basic level of performance for casual users.

How the HP 14" Laptop and the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 compare to other laptops
"This feels like an ideal laptop for someone who doesn’t want to spend a lot of money on a laptop and isn’t too bothered by things like build quality or construction. It’s a laptop that will be used to pay bills, keep track of expenses, do some online shopping, and will be tucked away in a spare bedroom/home office. It’s an appliance designed to do a job without fuss. It’s not a premium experience—the materials do feel a little cheap, the display won’t exactly wow you, and the battery life is nothing to write home about, especially if you’ve used more expensive devices. But overall it’s not too shabby, especially for the price."
Olivier Martin, Ryan Lim, and John Peroramas | May 2023
"The Lenovo IdeaPad 3i is decent for use as a workstation. Its Intel CPU and integrated graphics can only handle light productivity tasks, not demanding workloads like video editing or 3D graphics. You also can't do any color-critical work because the available displays have a narrow color gamut. It has a good port selection, but its USB-C lacks Thunderbolt 4 support. On the upside, it has a comfortable keyboard and doesn't get hot or loud under load."
