The HP 14" Laptop is more portable and slightly less expensive, but the HP Envy x360 15" has a larger screen, longer battery life, and a touchscreen. The Envy x360 may be better for multitasking and creative tasks due to the larger display, but if price and portability are your top priorities, the HP 14" could suit your needs. Neither is specifically designed for intensive gaming or engineering tasks, but both can handle general use and casual creative activities. The choice depends on whether you value a larger, touch-enabled display and longer battery life over the convenience of saving money and having a lighter laptop to carry. Give Feedback

The HP Envy x360 15" is good for general use, while the HP 14" Laptop is only fair.
The HP Envy x360 15" boasts a newer processor and a higher contrast touchscreen display, conducive to better performance and screen quality, which are very important for general use, while the HP 14" offers solid performance for everyday tasks and is lighter, enhancing portability and battery life. The Envy also has a convertible 2-in-1 design, providing added versatility compared to the traditional form of the HP 14", but this comes with a slight increase in weight and a significant cost increase.

The HP Envy x360 15" has a better screen than the HP 14" Laptop for content creation, and software development.
For general use, the HP 14" and Envy x360 15" laptops have screens that are clear and bright enough for activities like browsing and video streaming, but their resolution may not be as high as other models, which can affect sharpness and clarity. Engineering and design professionals may find the color accuracy and range lacking in these laptops due to more limited color gamuts, which are crucial for precision in visual work. Gamers and those using 3D applications could be disappointed by the lower refresh rates, as these won't be as smooth for fast-paced action or rendering, although they still handle general tasks and some lighter creative work adequately.

The HP Envy x360 15" has good build quality, while the HP 14" Laptop has only fair build quality.
PerfectRec’s Build Quality Score incorporates case materials, display and keyboard flex, hinge quality, and overall reliability.
Although they have very similar scores, PerfectRec considers HP Envy x360 15" to be only fair for gaming and AI, while the HP 14" Laptop is poor.
The HP 14" Laptop and the HP Envy x360 15" are both rated as fair for gaming and 3D mostly because they're equipped with integrated AMD Ryzen Vega 7 graphics and a standard screen refresh rate of 60Hz. While their CPUs are capable and their screen quality is decent, the absence of a high-end, dedicated GPU and a higher refresh rate screen limits their performance for graphically demanding tasks such as modern gaming or advanced 3D applications.

The HP 14" Laptop, with a Ryzen 5 5500U CPU and Vega 7 GPU, provides a basic level of performance for engineering and design tasks, but the smaller RAM and storage capacity, alongside a good but standard screen display, constrain its ability to handle more demanding work smoothly.

How the HP 14" Laptop and the HP Envy x360 15" compare to other laptops
"This feels like an ideal laptop for someone who doesn’t want to spend a lot of money on a laptop and isn’t too bothered by things like build quality or construction. It’s a laptop that will be used to pay bills, keep track of expenses, do some online shopping, and will be tucked away in a spare bedroom/home office. It’s an appliance designed to do a job without fuss. It’s not a premium experience—the materials do feel a little cheap, the display won’t exactly wow you, and the battery life is nothing to write home about, especially if you’ve used more expensive devices. But overall it’s not too shabby, especially for the price."
"Despite its good looks, stellar webcam and comfortable keyboard, the Envy x360 15 is hard to recommend because of its dim, 16:9 display. If the display isn't an issue for you, just be sure to wait for a good sale price. Otherwise, a more modern two-in-one with a 16:10 display such as the Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 or Lenovo Yoga 7i 16 provides a larger workspace without adding much to the size and weight of the system."
