When choosing between the Gateway 15.6" and the Lenovo ThinkPad T14, consider that the Gateway may save you money and could work well for basic tasks; however, the ThinkPad T14 typically offers stronger performance, better build quality, and a more reliable user experience, which can be especially important for business use or resource-intensive applications. The ThinkPad may also have longer battery life and greater portability, making it a better option if you’re frequently on the move or if you need a laptop that can handle more demanding software for engineering, 3D work, or machine learning without lag. The Lenovo ThinkPad T14 and Gateway 15.6" are both only fair for gaming and AI, though the Lenovo ThinkPad T14 is somewhat better.
The Gateway 15.6" laptop offers an adequate GPU for gaming and 3D applications, and its screen refresh rate is sufficient for a smooth visual experience, but it may not deliver the top-tier performance dedicated gaming laptops provide. The Lenovo ThinkPad T14 has a reliable CPU and good screen quality, but its GPU and refresh rate, while suitable for casual gaming and 3D tasks, are not optimized for high-end gaming or professional 3D rendering.

The Lenovo ThinkPad T14 is very good for engineering and design, while the Gateway 15.6" is only fair.
The Lenovo ThinkPad T14's superior CPU and RAM enhance its capability to handle complex engineering and design tasks more efficiently than the Gateway 15.6", while its higher-quality screen and GPU offer better visualization and rendering performance. Despite the Gateway's adequate performance, the ThinkPad also stands out with a more comfortable keyboard and quieter operation, although it may be less portable due to its sturdier build.

The Lenovo ThinkPad T14 has a better screen than the Gateway 15.6" for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
For general use, the Lenovo ThinkPad T14's higher resolution and brighter display result in clearer and more vibrant viewing compared to the Gateway 15.6", which, while adequate, offers less sharpness and lower brightness. When it comes to engineering and design work, the ThinkPad T14's display covers a wider range of colors, crucial for precision tasks, which the Gateway's screen lacks, making it less suitable for professional color work. For gaming and 3D, neither laptop is ideal due to poor refresh rates; however, better resolution and panel quality of the ThinkPad T14 would still provide a slightly better experience than the Gateway despite neither being optimized for high-frame-rate gaming.

"Some concessions have to be made when shopping for a budget laptop. Walmart's Gateway Ultra Slim laptops succeeds on the affordability front and delivers serviceable specs and good battery life, though it's hard to claim it's the best (or even particularly good) at any particular aspect. Its build quality, especially the touchpad, is mediocre, and its performance is decent but doesn't lead the way. The Gateway does undercut the cost of some competitors and offers ample storage with good connectivity, so it's not to be ignored."
"We like a lot about this laptop. It has many ports, with the inclusion of RJ45-Ethernet as a defining feature. WWAN is upgradable for maximum flexibility and the ThinkPad has many security functions. Working with the ThinkPad input devices is a lot of fun, and Lenovo puts in a serviceable Low Power panel. The AMD Ryzen 7 Pro 7840U delivers a great performance and does not drain the battery fast. Fan noise and temperatures are nothing special, but also far away from bad. With the user replaceable keyboard, the ThinkPad T14 Gen 4 has a special feature rarely present on most modern laptops."
