The decision between the Dell Inspiron 15 3511 and the MSI Modern 14 largely depends on your specific needs and preferences. The Dell Inspiron 15 likely offers a larger screen and may have more robust processing power, making it suitable for tasks like video editing or gaming, but it could be heavier and less portable. On the other hand, the MSI Modern 14, being lighter and possibly with a smaller screen, may be more convenient for travel and day-to-day tasks like web browsing or office work. The MSI might also have a longer battery life due to its possibly less power-hungry components. If the Dell Inspiron is more expensive but fits your need for more demanding tasks, it may justify the extra cost. Conversely, if you prioritize portability and lower cost over performance, the MSI Modern 14 could be the better choice. Give Feedback

The Dell Inspiron 15 3511 has a better screen than the MSI Modern 14 for software development, and content creation, while the MSI Modern 14 has a better screen for general use, gaming and AI, and engineering and design.
For general use, the Dell Inspiron 15 3511 and MSI Modern 14 offer displays that provide adequate resolution and brightness, but they may not have the premium panel types that offer wider viewing angles and better color reproduction. In engineering and design, while both laptops may suffice for less demanding tasks, professionals may find the color accuracy limited as they don't cover wider color gamuts like DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB, which are crucial for precision work. When it comes to gaming and 3D applications, the lack of a high refresh rate on both laptops means they're not ideal for the fluid motion demanded by these uses, despite their acceptable resolution and panel types.

Although they have very similar scores, PerfectRec considers Dell Inspiron 15 3511 to be good for engineering and design, while the MSI Modern 14 is only fair.
The Dell Inspiron 15 3511 is better suited for engineering and design due to its higher RAM and powerful integrated GPU which support intensive tasks and multitasking, whereas the MSI Modern 14, despite its adequate CPU and GPU for less demanding work, offers half the RAM, making it less optimal for complex engineering software. Although both have similar screen quality, the Dell's larger screen may provide a better experience for design work, but it is heavier and less portable than the lightweight MSI, which may be more convenient for users on the go.

How the Dell Inspiron 15 3511 and the MSI Modern 14 compare to other laptops
"The Dell Inspiron 15 3000 (3511) is a solid, if unremarkable, 15-inch budget laptop. It improves on many of the issues we had with the previous 3505 model, and with the inclusion of Windows 11, the 3511 is already a step above its competition. The lack of a USB-C port, the subpar speakers, and the dim display are drawbacks to factor in, but it's still one of the better 15-inch budget laptops on the market, especially when you consider it's under $400."
Alexander Tozzi, Ryan Lim, and John Peroramas | October 2023
"The MSI Modern 14 is okay for school use. It's very compact, so it's easy to carry around. It has a sharp display, a spacious keyboard, and a reasonably large touchpad. Its Intel 13th Gen CPU and integrated graphics can handle general productivity tasks like text processing and web browsing; however, don't expect to do anything intensive like 3D modeling or physics simulations. Unfortunately, the battery lasts less than five hours of light use, and the display doesn't get bright enough to combat glare."
