For a balance of performance and portability with a focus on gaming and creative tasks, the Dell Alienware m16 R2 is a strong choice with its high-refresh-rate display and robust cooling system, making it suitable for intensive gaming and engineering work. However, if you prioritize battery life and a more subdued design for general use while still wanting impressive gaming capabilities, the Lenovo Legion Pro 5i (2024) is the way to go, offering longer usage on a single charge and a slightly better GPU for gaming and 3D tasks. Both laptops have similar storage and RAM configurations, so your decision will largely depend on whether you value the Alienware's superior screen technology and gaming-centric design or the Legion's longer battery life and more versatile appearance. LaptopMag

Momo Tabari | January 2024
"Alienware’s m16 R2 is a solid gaming laptop that leaves much to be desired, particularly in its quest to fulfill your needs as a product for productivity. Battery life under eight hours and a dim display are both vital issues for something that will accompany you through school projects or a workday. However, the Alienware m16 R2 is an exceedingly powerful gaming laptop, consistently being one of the best in our performance tests when compared against similar products. Even then, its display is lacking color, its fans get pretty darn loud, and its speakers aren’t punchy enough to rise above that noise."

PCMag

Brian Westover | August 2023
"The midpriced Lenovo Legion Pro 5i Gen 8 follows some of our favorite gaming machines, including last year's model and the higher-end Legion Pro 7i Gen 8 tested earlier this year. But pedigree doesn't count for much in the computer world, and gaming laptops require a certain level of power and graphics performance to justify their prices. The Pro 5i Gen 8 just doesn't do that, offering middling CPU and GPU performance rather than the sort of muscle that would make it a great value."
