If you prioritize battery life and a lighter, more portable laptop, the ASUS Zenbook Pro 17 may be preferable for you as it boasts a longer battery life and is lighter than the MSI Raider GE77Hx. However, if you need a laptop with higher performance for 3D rendering, machine learning, or intensive gaming, the MSI Raider GE77Hx, equipped with a more powerful graphics card and a higher resolution and refresh rate display, would better suit your needs, despite being heavier and having a shorter battery life. Keep in mind, the MSI Raider also presents a more premium build quality, better heat management, and is leaned towards gaming appearances, but it comes at a higher price compared to the ASUS Zenbook Pro 17. The MSI Raider GE77Hx is very good for gaming and AI, while the ASUS Zenbook Pro 17 is only fair.
The MSI Raider GE77Hx has a superior Nvidia RTX 3070 Ti graphics card and a much higher screen refresh rate, which translates to more fluid visuals during gaming and 3D applications, compared to the ASUS Zenbook Pro 17 that includes the less powerful Nvidia RTX 3050 and a lower refresh rate. While the ASUS might handle less demanding games well, the MSI is more suitable for high-end gaming and intensive 3D tasks, thanks to its advanced GPU and high refresh display, making it a superior option for serious gamers and professionals in 3D fields.

The MSI Raider GE77Hx and ASUS Zenbook Pro 17 are both very good for engineering and design, though the MSI Raider GE77Hx is somewhat better.
The MSI Raider GE77Hx is rated higher for engineering and design use due to its more powerful GPU, the Nvidia RTX 3070 Ti, and higher resolution display which is crucial for detailed work, despite having less RAM than the ASUS Zenbook Pro 17 which still offers ample performance with an Nvidia RTX 3050 and substantial memory. While the ASUS has better battery life and is lighter, making it more portable, the MSI Raider has a significantly better screen refresh rate and higher display resolution, providing smoother visuals and sharper images, yet this comes at the cost of being heavier and having lower battery life.

How the ASUS Zenbook Pro 17 and the MSI Raider GE77Hx compare to other laptops
"The MSI Raider GE77 offers a lot of power for a lot of money. The main components consist of a Core i9-12900HX CPU, a GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Laptop GPU (175 watts TGP, 16 GB VRAM), and 64 GB of RAM, which makes for a high overall performance level. The GeForce GPU in particular scores some of the highest scores we have seen from this chip. Both the CPU and the GPU are able to run at continuously high clock speeds. The relatively high heat and noise emissions match our expectations for this device class. With approximately 5.5 to 6.5 hours, the battery life is good for a powerful 4K laptop."
