In choosing between the ASUS Zenbook Pro 17 and the Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2, consider that the ASUS model comes at a somewhat lower price and offers a larger screen and longer battery life, alongside a number pad and RGB keyboard lighting. However, it is heavier and has less powerful graphics, which might not be as suitable for demanding engineering tasks, 3D rendering, or intensive gaming. On the other hand, the Surface Laptop Studio 2 boasts a higher-performance processor and graphics suitable for intense engineering and 3D/machine learning applications, a higher-resolution display with touch capabilities, and a more portable form factor, but has a higher price and shorter battery life. If budget is a concern and the portability is not a major factor, the ASUS could be a good fit; otherwise, for high-end tasks and greater portability, consider the Surface Laptop Studio 2. The Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2 and ASUS Zenbook Pro 17 are both very good for engineering and design, though the Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2 is somewhat better.
The Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2 is favored for engineering and design due to its higher RAM capacity, superior GPU, and better screen quality with higher resolution, touchscreen, and higher contrast ratio, which enhance design precision and detail. Conversely, the ASUS Zenbook Pro 17, while offering solid performance with a competent processor and GPU, has less RAM and a lower screen resolution, which may limit its capability in more demanding engineering applications and fine detail work.

The Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2 has a better screen than the ASUS Zenbook Pro 17 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, and content creation.
The ASUS Zenbook Pro 17's display offers clarity and ample brightness, making it suitable for activities like browsing, document editing, and media consumption, while the accurate color reproduction benefits tasks such as graphic design and CAD work but the lower refresh rate detracts from the gaming and 3D modeling experience where fluid motion is crucial. Similarly, the Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2 shines with its high-resolution and bright display for everyday tasks and presents vibrant, true-to-life colors critical for professional creative work, yet it falls short for gaming and 3D due to its refresh rate limitations. Both machines emphasize screen traits that cater to productivity and visual precision over dynamic, high-speed display performance needed by gaming and complex 3D applications.

How the ASUS Zenbook Pro 17 and the Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2 compare to other laptops
"The new Surface Laptop Studio with its foldable display is supposed to replace the old Surface Book and the overall impression is good after our review. The build quality and the materials are top-notch, the performance utilization of the two components is solid and the device does not show any major flaws in terms of display or speakers, either. The folding mechanism leaves a sold impression as well, but it remains to be seen how it will hold up over the years. The so-called presentation mode is also not ideal since it covers the whole keyboard."
