For general use, the ASUS Vivobook 16 offers better performance thanks to its higher RAM and more powerful processor but is less portable and more costly compared to the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3. The Vivobook also boasts larger storage and a slightly bigger screen with a higher resolution, which could be beneficial for productivity tasks. Conversely, the IdeaPad Slim 3 is lighter, making it more portable, and has a touchscreen feature, which the Vivobook lacks, offering a different mode of interaction. The IdeaPad also provides longer battery life, which can be crucial for users who are frequently on the move. If you're focused on performance for tasks like engineering or 3D rendering, the Vivobook is the preferred option, but for those who prioritize budget and portability, the IdeaPad is a compelling choice. The ASUS Vivobook 16 and Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 are both good for general use, though the ASUS Vivobook 16 is somewhat better.
The ASUS Vivobook 16 offers a better CPU and double the RAM compared to the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3, which greatly improves performance for general use tasks; furthermore, its screen is larger with a higher quality display that enhances user experience. Despite the Lenovo IdeaPad having better battery life and being more portable due to its lighter weight, the performance and screen advantages of the ASUS Vivobook make it more suited for demanding general use cases.

The ASUS Vivobook 16 is good for engineering and design, while the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 is only fair.
The ASUS Vivobook 16 is equipped with a more powerful CPU, more RAM, and a better integrated GPU, which are very important for handling engineering and design workloads efficiently, while the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 offers less storage, less RAM, and a less powerful CPU and GPU combination, making it less optimal for demanding tasks but more affordable. Both laptops have quality IPS screens, but the ASUS offers a higher resolution and aspect ratio that can impact the clarity and space for engineering tasks; however, the Lenovo scores slightly higher in portability, which might be due to its lighter weight and longer battery life.

The ASUS Vivobook 16 has a better screen than the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 for content creation.
For general use, both the ASUS Vivobook 16 and the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 have fair screen quality as they offer adequate resolution and brightness, which benefits daily tasks like web browsing or document editing, but they don’t use premium panels that would provide superior color and clarity. In engineering and design, screen quality is important for precise color work, and while these laptops have fair displays, they lack the wide color gamuts like DCI-P3 or Adobe RGB needed for high-fidelity color representation. When it comes to gaming and 3D applications, a higher refresh rate is critical for smooth visuals, and both laptops fall short in this aspect, while also only offering moderate resolution and panel quality not ideally suited for intense graphical needs.

Although they have very similar scores, PerfectRec considers ASUS Vivobook 16 to be only fair for gaming and AI, while the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 is poor.
The ASUS Vivobook 16 offers fair performance for gaming and 3D tasks due to its AMD Ryzen 7 with integrated Vega 8 graphics and a standard 60Hz screen refresh rate, which meets basic requirements but may not provide the smoothest experience for fast-paced games. In comparison, the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3, with its Ryzen 3 CPU and integrated Vega 6 graphics, is similarly fair for gaming and 3D applications, but with slightly lower overall graphics performance; its screen, while having the same refresh rate, is smaller, which can affect the immersiveness of gaming and 3D content.

How the ASUS Vivobook 16 and the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 compare to other laptops
Olivier Martin, Ryan Lim, Yannick Khong | May 2023
"The ASUS Vivobook 16 M1605 (2023) is a budget Windows laptop. It's available with various AMD Ryzen 5000 and 7000 U-series CPUs and integrated graphics. You can only get 8GB of RAM; however, there's an empty SO-DIMM slot if you want to upgrade it. It has an FHD+ (1920 x 1200) 16:10 IPS display, a full-size keyboard with a Numpad, a 720p webcam, and Wi-Fi 6E wireless connectivity. Ports include three USB-As, one USB-C, an HDMI, and a headphone jack. The USB-C supports charging but no video output."
Olivier Martin, Ryan Lim, and John Peroramas | May 2023
"The Lenovo IdeaPad 3i is decent for use as a workstation. Its Intel CPU and integrated graphics can only handle light productivity tasks, not demanding workloads like video editing or 3D graphics. You also can't do any color-critical work because the available displays have a narrow color gamut. It has a good port selection, but its USB-C lacks Thunderbolt 4 support. On the upside, it has a comfortable keyboard and doesn't get hot or loud under load."
