The decision between the ASUS Vivobook 15 and the HP Pavilion 15 largely depends on your priorities. If you are looking for a more cost-effective option, the ASUS Vivobook 15 is usually less expensive. However, keep in mind that it comes with less storage and memory than the HP Pavilion 15, which might impact performance, especially if you plan on multitasking or storing a lot of data. The HP Pavilion offers more storage and memory, potentially resulting in smoother performance and less need for external storage solutions. Both are suitable for general use, but if you're into intensive tasks like 3D modeling or running engineering software, the additional memory in the HP could be beneficial. In terms of portability, both laptops are similar in weight and size, so they should be equally easy to carry around. Neither is particularly well-suited for heavy gaming or machine learning tasks due to their modest integrated graphics. Lastly, consider the display quality and battery life, both of which are crucial for extended use – although specific details were not provided, they can be an important part of your decision. The ASUS Vivobook 15 has a better screen than the HP Pavilion 15 for general use, gaming and AI, and engineering and design, while the HP Pavilion 15 has a better screen for software development.
The ASUS Vivobook 15 offers a balanced screen with adequate resolution and brightness, making it suitable for daily tasks and some professional applications, but the limited color range lessens its appeal for precise engineering and design work. On the other hand, the HP Pavilion 15's display falls short in brightness and resolution, which dampens the experience for both commonplace and specialized tasks, while the inadequate color accuracy further diminishes its utility for color-critical engineering and design applications. Lastly, for those interested in 3D and gaming, the ASUS Vivobook 15's screen, with its regular refresh rate, may not be as smooth or as responsive as desired, which is an area where both models don't particularly excel.

Although they have very similar scores, PerfectRec considers HP Pavilion 15 to be only fair for gaming and AI, while the ASUS Vivobook 15 is poor.
The ASUS Vivobook 15 and the HP Pavilion 15 are both fair choices for gaming and 3D applications because they come with integrated graphics units which are suitable for moderate gaming and 3D tasks, not dedicated gaming GPUs, and have screen refresh rates of 60Hz which is standard for casual gaming but not ideal for high-speed gaming where higher refresh rates can provide smoother visuals. While the Vivobook benefits from a higher screen resolution providing crisper images, the Pavilion has more storage space and more RAM, which can be beneficial for multitasking and loading times.

How the ASUS Vivobook 15 and the HP Pavilion 15 compare to other laptops
"The Asus VivoBook 15 is a quiet office notebook with a strong screen. However, the VivoBook 15 still has room for improvement. Office and internet applications as well as simple games do not pose any major challenges for the VivoBook - this is ensured by the built-in combination of Ryzen 7 5700U APU and 16 GB of RAM. Heat and noise emissions are acceptable. But, the laptop has weaknesses that should not be present at this level: lack of keyboard lighting, a slow memory card reader, no fast USB-C port (USB 3.2 Gen 2 or Thunderbolt 4) with Power Delivery and DisplayPort. Battery runtimes can only be described as average."
"The HP Pavilion 15 carries a fair amount of power and a sharp display in its handsome slimline shell. It's not perfect, but it's a hard worker. This is wonderfully designed and totes a heck of a lot of desktop power, with the added benefit of a decent webcam and a full-sized keyboard. If you're getting down to business on a budget, it's a great fit."
