The ASUS TUF Gaming A17 is very good for gaming and AI, while the MSI Modern 14 is only fair.
The ASUS TUF Gaming A17 offers better gaming and 3D experiences because it comes with a more powerful Nvidia RTX 4070 GPU and a higher screen refresh rate of 144Hz, whereas the MSI Modern 14 has an integrated AMD Vega 7 GPU and a standard refresh rate of 60Hz. The TUF's stronger GPU is more capable of handling demanding graphics and its screen's faster refresh rate provides smoother visuals, both very important for gaming and 3D applications, while the Modern 14 still manages fair performance with modest capabilities suitable for less intensive use.

The ASUS TUF Gaming A17 has a better screen than the MSI Modern 14 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, software development, and content creation.
For general use, both the ASUS TUF Gaming A17 and MSI Modern 14 offer fair screen quality with adequate resolution and brightness, but may not have premium panel types that provide the best visual experience. When considering engineering and design tasks, these laptops offer fair screen quality due to sufficient but not exceptional coverage of color gamuts, which ensures decent but not top-tier color accuracy for professional work. However, for gaming and 3D applications, both laptops fall short because of their lower refresh rates, which can impede the smoothness and immediacy of on-screen action, even though their resolution and panel types are serviceable for this purpose.

"There is one big question that needs an answer. Is the TUF Gaming A17 FA707 a better purchase than the ROG Strix G17 G713R (2022)? Well, it depends. Undoubtedly, the Strix is the more premium product. Arguably the biggest advantage it has over its TUF fellow is in regards to the display. ASUS TUF Gaming A17 A707’s IPS panel has a Full HD resolution, comfortable viewing angles, and a very good contrast ratio."

"The MSI Modern 14 is okay for school use. It's very compact, so it's easy to carry around. It has a sharp display, a spacious keyboard, and a reasonably large touchpad. Its Intel 13th Gen CPU and integrated graphics can handle general productivity tasks like text processing and web browsing; however, don't expect to do anything intensive like 3D modeling or physics simulations. Unfortunately, the battery lasts less than five hours of light use, and the display doesn't get bright enough to combat glare."
