The ASUS TUF Gaming A17 offers better performance for intensive tasks like 3D rendering, machine learning, and engineering, supported by stronger graphics and a faster processor. It's suitable for serious gaming. Conversely, the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 is more budget-friendly and portable, with a lighter design and good battery life, making it ideal for general use. The TUF Gaming A17 has a larger screen and is thicker and heavier, reducing its portability. If portability and price are more important than high-end performance, you may prefer the IdeaPad Slim 3. The ASUS TUF Gaming A17 is very good for general use, while the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 is good.
The ASUS TUF Gaming A17, with a more powerful AMD Ryzen 9 processor and double the RAM of the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3, offers better performance for demanding tasks, while its larger screen and dedicated Nvidia graphics card make it suitable for heavy-duty applications and gaming, translating into an elevated general use experience. Conversely, the IdeaPad Slim 3, although lighter and more portable with a longer battery life, has a less powerful processor and integrated graphics, which makes it capable for everyday tasks but falls short for more intensive use when compared to the ASUS model.

The ASUS TUF Gaming A17 is very good for engineering and design, while the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 is only fair.
The ASUS TUF Gaming A17 is better for engineering and design due to its powerful AMD Ryzen 9 CPU and Nvidia RTX GPU, which offer superior performance in processing and graphics-intensive tasks compared to the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3's AMD Ryzen 3 CPU and integrated Vega graphics. While the IdeaPad Slim 3 provides better portability and quieter operation, its less robust CPU and GPU make it less suitable for demanding engineering applications that the ASUS can handle with ease.

The ASUS TUF Gaming A17 has a better screen than the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, software development, and content creation.
For general use, both the ASUS TUF Gaming A17 and Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 offer screens with adequate resolution and brightness, providing a comfortable everyday viewing experience; however, they may not have the most vivid panels. In the context of engineering and design, the screens on these laptops might not cover the wider color gamuts such as DCI-P3 or Adobe RGB, which can limit color accuracy for professional tasks. When it comes to 3D tasks and gaming, the lower refresh rates of these laptops won't provide as smooth visuals as models with higher refresh rates, which affects the overall experience.

"There is one big question that needs an answer. Is the TUF Gaming A17 FA707 a better purchase than the ROG Strix G17 G713R (2022)? Well, it depends. Undoubtedly, the Strix is the more premium product. Arguably the biggest advantage it has over its TUF fellow is in regards to the display. ASUS TUF Gaming A17 A707’s IPS panel has a Full HD resolution, comfortable viewing angles, and a very good contrast ratio."
Olivier Martin, Ryan Lim, and John Peroramas | May 2023
"The Lenovo IdeaPad 3i is decent for use as a workstation. Its Intel CPU and integrated graphics can only handle light productivity tasks, not demanding workloads like video editing or 3D graphics. You also can't do any color-critical work because the available displays have a narrow color gamut. It has a good port selection, but its USB-C lacks Thunderbolt 4 support. On the upside, it has a comfortable keyboard and doesn't get hot or loud under load."
