If your priority is gaming or other graphics-intensive tasks such as 3D modeling or video editing, the ASUS TUF Gaming A16 with its more powerful processor and dedicated graphics card will serve you better, at the cost of being heavier and having shorter battery life. On the other hand, if you favor portability, longer battery life, and a lower price for everyday tasks like web browsing, office applications, or watching videos, the MSI Modern 14 will meet your needs. The MSI is also thinner and lighter, making it ideal for carrying around. Keep in mind, however, that its integrated graphics and processor won't handle heavy workloads as well as the ASUS. The ASUS TUF Gaming A16 is good for gaming and AI, while the MSI Modern 14 is only fair.
The ASUS TUF Gaming A16 is equipped with a more powerful GPU, the AMD RX 7600S, and has a higher screen refresh rate of 165 Hz, providing smoother visuals and better performance for gaming and 3D applications. In contrast, the MSI Modern 14 has an integrated GPU, using the Vega 7 graphics from the AMD Ryzen 5 7530U processor, and a standard refresh rate of 60 Hz, which means it can handle games and 3D tasks but not as effectively as the ASUS model.

The ASUS TUF Gaming A16 is good for engineering and design, while the MSI Modern 14 is only fair.
The ASUS TUF Gaming A16 trumps the MSI Modern 14 for engineering and design due to its superior CPU and GPU, which are crucial for demanding tasks and running complex software. While both laptops have the same amount of RAM and storage, the stronger processing power and dedicated graphics of the ASUS model will offer better performance for such specialized use, despite it being less portable and having a slightly noisier operation than the MSI Modern 14.

The ASUS TUF Gaming A16 has a better screen than the MSI Modern 14 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, software development, and content creation.
The ASUS TUF Gaming A16 likely has a rich color display and sufficient brightness, making it appealing for general use and detailed engineering work, but its lower refresh rate is a drawback for fast-paced gaming where fluid visuals are key. The MSI Modern 14, with its fair screen quality, strikes a balance that is adequate for daily tasks and some light design work, but its color accuracy may not be as high, leaving professionals seeking precision to look elsewhere. For gaming and 3D applications, both models fall short with their poor refresh rates, a vital feature for rendering smooth motion in intense graphic scenarios.

How the ASUS TUF Gaming A16 and the MSI Modern 14 compare to other laptops
"The A16 makes an excellent case against more expensive laptops like the Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 and the MSI Katana GF76, especially if you’re into 1080p gaming. However, although its affordable, it doesn’t skimp on performance or a robust chassis. But for me, the biggest factor that sets it apart from these options is its incredible battery life. In my time reviewing laptops, I can’t remember when I last saw a gaming laptop lasted 11 and a half hours on a single charge, which makes the A16, in my book, truly outstanding."
Alexander Tozzi, Ryan Lim, and John Peroramas | October 2023
"The MSI Modern 14 is okay for school use. It's very compact, so it's easy to carry around. It has a sharp display, a spacious keyboard, and a reasonably large touchpad. Its Intel 13th Gen CPU and integrated graphics can handle general productivity tasks like text processing and web browsing; however, don't expect to do anything intensive like 3D modeling or physics simulations. Unfortunately, the battery lasts less than five hours of light use, and the display doesn't get bright enough to combat glare."
