The ASUS TUF Gaming A16, being more expensive, offers better performance suited for tasks like gaming or intensive engineering software due to its stronger graphics card and processor. In contrast, the Dell Latitude 14 7490 is more affordable and hence has less powerful components, making it suitable for general use and business tasks. The ASUS also has a larger and slightly better display, which would benefit entertainment and productivity, but it's heavier and bulkier, impacting portability compared to the lighter Dell. If battery life is a concern, the Dell may offer more longevity due to its lower power hardware. If you need a laptop for heavy-duty tasks and can handle the extra weight and cost, the ASUS is a better option; if you prioritize portability, battery life, and are mindful of budget with moderate use in mind, the Dell could be the way to go. The ASUS TUF Gaming A16 likely has a balance of high resolution and adequate brightness, making it appealing for general uses, like browsing and watching videos, while its broad color gamuts help in accurately displaying colors for engineering and design tasks. The Dell Latitude 14 7490, although not as bright or high-resolution, might still provide a suitable screen for general tasks and sufficient color accuracy for professional work. However, both laptops fall short for gaming and 3D applications as their screens probably don't offer the high refresh rates required for smooth motion and rapid responses.

How the ASUS TUF Gaming A16 and the Dell Latitude 14 7490 compare to other laptops
"The A16 makes an excellent case against more expensive laptops like the Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 and the MSI Katana GF76, especially if you’re into 1080p gaming. However, although its affordable, it doesn’t skimp on performance or a robust chassis. But for me, the biggest factor that sets it apart from these options is its incredible battery life. In my time reviewing laptops, I can’t remember when I last saw a gaming laptop lasted 11 and a half hours on a single charge, which makes the A16, in my book, truly outstanding."
"The Dell Latitude 7490's got the speed you need (and then some), a keyboard that's comfortable enough for writing all day long and a battery that supports a full 8-hour workday. If only the display were brighter and it managed heat better. If you need every minute of battery life you can get, the extended-battery version of the Lenovo ThinkPad T480 lasts 8 hours longer than the Latitude 7490, but its display is much less colorful."
