The Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 X3D is a top-tier gaming laptop with a high-end price to match. It offers exceptional performance for gaming, 3D rendering, and machine learning tasks, thanks to its powerful Nvidia RTX 4090 GPU and AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX3D processor. The 17.3-inch IPS display with a 240Hz refresh rate and 2560 x 1440 resolution is ideal for fast-paced gaming and detailed visual work, though it's not a touchscreen. It's also equipped with a robust cooling system to manage heat during intensive tasks. However, its size and weight make it less portable, and the battery life is relatively short, which is typical for gaming laptops. On the other hand, the Dell Inspiron 14 7435 is a versatile lower midrange 2-in-1 laptop that's more budget-friendly and significantly more portable. Its 14-inch touchscreen display with a 16:10 aspect ratio is suitable for general use and offers good color accuracy, though it falls short for specialized tasks like gaming or engineering. The AMD Ryzen 7 7730U processor and integrated Vega 8 graphics are adequate for everyday tasks but won't satisfy the demands of high-end gaming or intensive computational work. The Inspiron's convertible design adds flexibility, allowing it to function as a tablet, and its battery life is much longer than the Asus, making it a better choice for on-the-go productivity. In summary, if you prioritize top-of-the-line gaming and performance capabilities and don't mind a heavier, less portable device with shorter battery life, the Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 X3D is the way to go. However, if you need a lightweight, versatile laptop for general use that can handle occasional light gaming and offers a longer battery life, the Dell Inspiron 14 7435 is the more suitable option. PCMag

Eric Grevstad | August 2023
"We see no shame in an economy laptop missing the four-star mark. Frankly, we considered giving the Inspiron 14 2-in-1 three-and-a-half stars for its low price, competitive performance, and long battery life. Unfortunately, working with a screen that can't deliver at least 300 nits of brightness is simply no fun to the point of detrimental. Still, if you're looking for a convertible laptop on a tight budget, it's worth keeping an eye on Dell's sales and discounts. That Lavender Blue model is fairly tempting."
