The ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 is very good for engineering and design, while the Lenovo Legion Slim 7 15.6" is good.
The ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 is favored for engineering and design because it has a more powerful Intel i9 CPU and an Nvidia RTX 3070 Ti GPU, which are crucial for such workloads, along with a larger screen offering a high-refresh rate that benefits design fluidity but is less portable due to its size and weight. The Lenovo Legion Slim 7, with an AMD Ryzen 7 CPU and an Nvidia RTX 3060 GPU, also supports engineering tasks well, offers a slightly better screen color accuracy, and is more portable, making it a solid choice for users who prioritize a balance between performance and the ability to work on the go.

The ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 has a better screen than the Lenovo Legion Slim 7 for gaming and AI, and content creation.
For general use, both the ASUS and Lenovo laptops offer panels with ample resolution and brightness, ensuring clear and vibrant visuals for everyday tasks like browsing and video watching. In the engineering and design space, both models cover a wide range of color gamuts, which is crucial for professionals who need accurate color representation in their work. How the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 and the Lenovo Legion Slim 7 15.6" compare to other laptops
"Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 laptop review: liquid metal 7 nm AMD Zen 3 is stunning. The raw performance increase is absolutely bonkers if you're upgrading from a laptop on Coffee Lake-H or older. The 45 W Ryzen 9 5900HX is neck-to-neck with the thicker, heavier, and hotter Schenker Ultra 17 running on a desktop-class Core i9-11900K despite their wide TDP differences. The performance-per-watt advantages can make Intel Rocket Lake feel like a last generation platform at times. As for the chassis itself, it's a huge light show with RGB LEDs on almost all sides of the system."
"The Lenovo Legion Slim 7 is a slim Legion notebook that is just as excellent with Nvidia & Intel. However, the Legion Slim 7i slightly sullied by lacklustre battery life. You get a slim aluminium chassis, great input devices, decent port selection, fast high-quality WQXGA display and great performance. Supporting Thunderbolt 4 is one advantage of the Intel/Nvidia model tested in this review. Moreover, this variant has slightly higher CPU performance as well as better GPU performance in certain applications (e.g. CUDA-based apps). The Lenovo Legion S7i is thin, premium and performant – but less efficient than its AMD counterpart."
