The ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 is the better choice for performance-intensive tasks like gaming, 3D rendering, and engineering work, with a higher-end processor and graphics card, more RAM, and a larger, faster-refreshing screen. However, it is heavier and larger, making it less portable, and it comes at a higher price. On the other hand, the ASUS Vivobook 15 is more affordable and portable, suitable for general use and tasks like web browsing, office work, and media consumption, though it has a smaller screen, less RAM, and less powerful onboard graphics which are not ideal for demanding applications. The ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 is good for general use, while the ASUS Vivobook 15 is only fair.
The ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 is better for general use with its powerful Intel i9 processor, double the RAM, and a high-refresh-rate screen, but is less portable due to its larger size and weight compared to the ASUS Vivobook 15, which offers a more modest i3 processor with less RAM and a standard refresh-rate screen yet is lighter and slightly more portable.

The ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 has a better screen than the ASUS Vivobook 15 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, software development, and content creation.
If you prioritize a clear and vibrant display for activities like browsing, writing, or streaming, the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 offers superior resolution and brightness, making it an excellent choice for general use. However, for engineering and design work where color accuracy is crucial, the ASUS Vivobook 15 might not match the Strix Scar 17, which likely boasts better coverage of professional color gamuts. When it comes to gaming or 3D modeling, the Strix Scar 17's lackluster refresh rate may hinder performance, despite its good resolution and panel type, which are still important but secondary to a smooth visual experience.

"Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 laptop review: liquid metal 7 nm AMD Zen 3 is stunning. The raw performance increase is absolutely bonkers if you're upgrading from a laptop on Coffee Lake-H or older. The 45 W Ryzen 9 5900HX is neck-to-neck with the thicker, heavier, and hotter Schenker Ultra 17 running on a desktop-class Core i9-11900K despite their wide TDP differences. The performance-per-watt advantages can make Intel Rocket Lake feel like a last generation platform at times. As for the chassis itself, it's a huge light show with RGB LEDs on almost all sides of the system."
"The Asus VivoBook 15 is a quiet office notebook with a strong screen. However, the VivoBook 15 still has room for improvement. Office and internet applications as well as simple games do not pose any major challenges for the VivoBook - this is ensured by the built-in combination of Ryzen 7 5700U APU and 16 GB of RAM. Heat and noise emissions are acceptable. But, the laptop has weaknesses that should not be present at this level: lack of keyboard lighting, a slow memory card reader, no fast USB-C port (USB 3.2 Gen 2 or Thunderbolt 4) with Power Delivery and DisplayPort. Battery runtimes can only be described as average."
