Considering your needs, the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15 is tailored for intensive gaming and engineering tasks, given its higher-end graphics card and processor, but it's heavier and less portable. The Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5i, while still capable for engineering and general use, offers better portability and a higher resolution display, which might be preferable for tasks requiring finer screen detail but may not be as suitable for demanding 3D applications or gaming as the ASUS. If a reasonable price is a priority and you need something lighter for everyday use, the Lenovo might appeal more, whereas for top performance in gaming or complex computing tasks, the ASUS stands out despite its higher price and bulkier build. NotebookCheck

Vaidyanathan Subramaniam | May 2022
"Asus continues to refine the ROG Strix Scar lineup with new upgrades. The Asus ROG Strix Scar 15 offers almost everything you would expect from a gaming laptop at this price. The build quality is great, connectivity options are decent, and there is enough scope for internal upgrades as well. Asus reverts to membrane switches for the keyboard — though not as "clickety" as the opto-mechanical ones we saw with last year's model, they still make for a decent typing and gaming experience. The lack of biometrics in any form is a downer."

Tom's Hardware

Brandon Hill | January 2024
"Lenovo’s IdeaPad Pro 5i represents an impressive opening salvo for Meteor Lake in the ultraportable space against familiar foes from AMD and Apple. Not only does the Core Ultra 5 125H processor provide good performance across the board, but battery life remains a strong point against the Acer Swift Edge 16 with its AMD Ryzen 7 7840U processor. It can’t quite match the endurance of the 15-inch MacBook Pro, but the gap is shrinking."
