If you prioritize a laptop that excels in gaming and 3D rendering but can also handle general use and engineering tasks, the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15 offers higher performance thanks to its powerful GPU and CPU, along with a high refresh rate display that can deliver smoother visuals in fast-moving games. However, this model is less portable due to its weight and has a shorter battery life, making it less suitable for travel or long periods away from a power source. In contrast, the ASUS Zenbook Pro 17 typically costs less and offers a larger screen with better color accuracy, which is beneficial for creative professionals. It also has a superior keyboard and longer battery life, attributes that are more conducive to prolonged use on the go, though it lacks some of the gaming-specific features such as higher refresh rates and may not perform as well in the most intensive tasks. For general use, both the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15 and Zenbook Pro 17 offer sharp images and vibrant color due to their high resolution and brightness, making them pleasant to use for everyday tasks and media consumption. In engineering and design, their broad color coverage ensures accurate color reproduction, which is essential for professionals who need to work with color-critical applications. However, for gaming and 3D work, their lower refresh rates may lead to less fluid motion compared to laptops with higher refresh rates, which can diminish the experience in fast-paced games and interactive 3D environments.

The ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15 and ASUS Zenbook Pro 17 are both very good for engineering and design.
The ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15 offers superior CPU and GPU performance, essential for demanding engineering tasks and complex designs, but its heavier weight and louder operating noise make it less portable and more intrusive in quiet environments compared to the ASUS Zenbook Pro 17, which also offers high CPU and RAM capacity for engineering use, but has a larger, brighter screen that benefits design work, albeit with a less powerful GPU. While both have high-quality screens, the Zenbook's higher screen brightness and large display could be more conducive to detailed design work, where color and visual detail are crucial.

How the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15 and the ASUS Zenbook Pro 17 compare to other laptops
"Asus continues to refine the ROG Strix Scar lineup with new upgrades. The Asus ROG Strix Scar 15 offers almost everything you would expect from a gaming laptop at this price. The build quality is great, connectivity options are decent, and there is enough scope for internal upgrades as well. Asus reverts to membrane switches for the keyboard — though not as "clickety" as the opto-mechanical ones we saw with last year's model, they still make for a decent typing and gaming experience. The lack of biometrics in any form is a downer."
