The Apple MacBook Air (2022) is often significantly more expensive than the ASUS Vivobook 15X, but it offers a stronger performance for general use, better display color accuracy, a higher quality keyboard, backlighting, and speakers. The MacBook Air is also lighter and has a fanless design for silent operation, which might be beneficial for use in quiet environments. It provides good battery life and is more portable due to its lighter weight. On the other hand, the ASUS Vivobook 15X, while generally less expensive, offers double the storage capacity and includes a number pad on the keyboard, which can be helpful for numerical data entry. It does, however, have a lower battery life and less color accuracy, potentially making it less suitable for tasks that require precise colors. If portability, battery life, and display quality are priorities, and budget is less of a concern, the MacBook Air could be the superior choice, but if cost and storage space are more critical, and you benefit from a number pad, then the Vivobook 15X would be more fitting. The Apple MacBook Air (2022) and ASUS Vivobook 15X are both good for general use, though the Apple MacBook Air (2022) is somewhat better.
The Apple MacBook Air (2022) excels in general use due to its superior CPU (Apple M2), higher screen quality with better color coverage and brightness, and exceptional portability with a lighter weight and longer-lasting battery. In contrast, the ASUS Vivobook 15X, while offering more storage, has a less powerful CPU (AMD Ryzen 5 7530U), lower screen quality with less color accuracy and lower brightness, and reduced portability due to its heavier build and shorter battery life.

The Apple MacBook Air (2022) is good for engineering and design, while the ASUS Vivobook 15X is only fair.
The Apple MacBook Air (2022) excels in engineering and design tasks with its high-resolution screen and powerful Apple M2 chip, providing exceptional screen quality and performance, but has less portability due to a slightly higher price and fewer ports compared to its counterparts. In contrast, the ASUS Vivobook 15X, with its ample storage and a decent AMD processor, offers fair performance for engineering and design at a more affordable price, but the tradeoff comes with lower screen quality and less overall power.

The Apple MacBook Air has a better screen than the ASUS Vivobook 15X for general use, AI, engineering and design, software development, and content creation.
The Apple MacBook Air typically offers a high-resolution display with excellent color accuracy, which makes it great for engineering and design work that relies on precise color representation, but its standard refresh rate limits its performance for 3D applications which require faster frame rendering. The ASUS Vivobook 15X, while offering a decent resolution and adequate brightness for general and engineering tasks, may not provide the wide color gamut needed for highly specialized design work, and similarly suffers in 3D performance due to a standard refresh rate which can't smoothly handle fast-moving images. For casual use, both laptops will suffice, but professionals in design and gamers will notice the MacBook Air excels in color accuracy, whereas both may find neither laptop ideal for high-end 3D work due to their refresh rate constraints.

The Apple MacBook Air (2022) with its M2 GPU is fair for 3D tasks but may face compatibility issues since many popular games don't run on macOS; whereas, the ASUS Vivobook 15X, equipped with an AMD Ryzen GPU, supports more games due to Windows but also delivers fair performance, partially due to both laptops having a standard screen refresh rate which isn't ideal for high-end gaming.

How the Apple MacBook Air (2022) and the ASUS Vivobook 15X compare to other laptops
"The Apple MacBook Air M2 Entry is a very good, but too expensive daily MacBook. The new MacBook Air M2 is undoubtedly once again a very good mobile companion, but we are still a little bit disappointed on a very high level, which is definitely connected with the increased price point. The new chassis is extremely slim and the front edge is no problem during typing, but the bezels are pretty wide for a modern device and in addition with the vertical space required for the notch, the new Air has larger footprint than some Windows rivals."
"All in all, my day on the Vivobook had its ups and downs. It is a really pretty and well-built device, and it had all of the functionality I needed to get me through my browser-based workload. But the speakers weren’t my favorite, and the battery life was just too short."
