The Acer Nitro 5 17 is a more budget-friendly option and offers good gaming performance with a high-refresh-rate screen. If gaming is your main focus and you're sensitive to price, this could be a sensible choice. In contrast, the MSI Raider GE78 is a premium laptop with top-of-the-line performance for 3D rendering, machine learning, and engineering applications, and it has a higher-resolution display which would be beneficial for those details. However, it's heavier and more expensive, with a larger power brick, making it less portable than the Acer. If professional performance and a superior display are your priorities, and cost is less of a concern, the MSI would be a better fit. Give Feedback

The MSI Raider GE78 is excellent for engineering and design, while the Acer Nitro 5 17 is very good.
The MSI Raider GE78 is excellent for engineering and design thanks to its superior Intel CPU, double the RAM, and a more powerful Nvidia GPU compared to the Acer Nitro 5 17; additionally, the MSI has a higher resolution and more color-accurate screen, enhancing visual clarity and fidelity for design tasks. While the Acer is good for engineering, with a capable AMD CPU, Nvidia RTX 3080 GPU, and a quality IPS screen, its lower RAM and screen resolution make it less optimal for the most demanding engineering applications compared to MSI.

The MSI Raider GE78 has a better screen than the Acer Nitro 5 17 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
The Acer Nitro 5 17, with a focus on panel type, resolution, and brightness, offers vibrant and sharp visuals suitable for everyday tasks like browsing and video streaming, which is why it's highly regarded for general use, but its lower refresh rate diminishes the experience for fast-paced gaming or 3D rendering. The MSI Raider GE78's superior color accuracy, due to a wider color gamut coverage, enhances the precision needed for professional engineering and design work. However, both laptops fall short for 3D applications, as their refresh rates, despite being adequate for non-gaming purposes, aren't high enough to meet the demands of high-frame-rate gaming or smooth 3D animations.

How the Acer Nitro 5 17 and the MSI Raider GE78 compare to other laptops
"The Acer Nitro 5 17 is a solid mid-range gamer. The Nitro 5 does not belong to the top group of RTX 3070 notebooks: Compared with the RTX 3070 notebooks tested so far, the computer delivers below-average frame rates - this is due to the 100-watt TGP. The GPU performance can be increased a bit with a firmware update. The device scores with a high level of CPU performance. Throttling is not a concern. CPU and GPU can produce their performance constantly. The laptop heats up moderately under load. The noise development is on the usual class level."
"Performance-wise, the GE78 offers a significant boost over the GE77 for just slightly higher power consumption. You'll have to get the RTX 4080 or 4090 configurations to see the performance advantages, however, as the RTX 4070 is closer in performance to the older RTX 3080 Ti. In terms of design, some users might prefer the 16:9 minimalistic look of the older GE77 over the 16:10 retro-inspired GE78 and vice versa. We wouldn't call one better than the other in terms of aesthetics, but we'll give the edge to the GE78 for its stronger hinges and larger keys and clickpad."
