If you're focused on gaming or tasks that require a lot of processing power and graphics capability, like video editing or 3D design, the Acer Nitro 5 17 would be the better choice, as it typically has a stronger graphics card and faster processor. However, if you prioritize portability, a longer battery life, and mainly use your laptop for general tasks such as web browsing, document editing, or other less intensive applications, the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" may suit your needs while also saving you money. Keep in mind that the Acer’s higher performance may also mean it is heavier and possibly has a shorter battery life compared to the more budget-friendly Lenovo. Give Feedback

The Acer Nitro 5 17 and Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" are both good for general use, though the Acer Nitro 5 17 is somewhat better.
The Acer Nitro 5 17 is well-suited for general use with a robust CPU and GPU, ample RAM and storage, and good screen quality which also makes it suitable for gaming, though its weight and shorter battery life may limit its portability. Conversely, the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" offers a lighter build and longer battery life for better portability, decent CPU and RAM for everyday tasks, as well as good screen quality, but it doesn't match the Acer's performance for more demanding applications.

The Acer Nitro 5 17 is good for gaming and AI, while the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" is only fair.
The Acer Nitro 5 17 is better suited for gaming and 3D applications thanks to its high-performance Nvidia RTX 3080 GPU and a screen refresh rate of 360Hz, providing smoother visuals and better graphics processing than the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17", which features an integrated AMD Vega 7 GPU and a standard refresh rate of 60Hz. While both have comparable screen quality and processors that can handle general tasks, the superior GPU and refresh rate on the Acer make it a more appropriate choice for demanding gaming and 3D work.

The Acer Nitro 5 17 has a better screen than the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, and content creation.
When selecting laptops for general use, both the Acer Nitro 5 17 and Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17 provide clear and vibrant displays due to their higher resolution and ample brightness, making everyday tasks such as browsing and document editing a pleasure. For engineering and design purposes, however, the displays on both may fall short in accurately representing colors, as they don't fully cover professional color spaces, which is crucial for tasks requiring precise color work. If you're interested in gaming or 3D work, the lower refresh rates of these laptops' displays could hinder fast-paced visuals and smooth motion which are key for an immersive experience in high-intensity scenarios.

How the Acer Nitro 5 17 and the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" compare to other laptops
"The Acer Nitro 5 17 is a solid mid-range gamer. The Nitro 5 does not belong to the top group of RTX 3070 notebooks: Compared with the RTX 3070 notebooks tested so far, the computer delivers below-average frame rates - this is due to the 100-watt TGP. The GPU performance can be increased a bit with a firmware update. The device scores with a high level of CPU performance. Throttling is not a concern. CPU and GPU can produce their performance constantly. The laptop heats up moderately under load. The noise development is on the usual class level."
"The Lenovo IdeaPad 3 17" defies expectations. Indeed, it is just a minor upgrade over last year. However, this doesn’t make the laptop any less terrific. It’s got a great performance, courtesy of the Ryzen 5x25U processors. In addition, you get a pretty good battery life. Perhaps, the 2-hour decrease in video playback, compared to last year is not great, but still, 10 hours of Web browsing and 7 hours of video playback is okay for 17-inch notebooks."
