The Acer Nitro 5 17 is often significantly less expensive, so it's an attractive option if you're looking to save money. However, if you require a laptop with better performance, the Gigabyte Aorus 15X, though significantly more expensive, is outfitted with more powerful hardware. While the Acer has a larger screen and solid performance for gaming, the Aorus 15X's higher resolution and more potent processor make it more suitable for demanding engineering tasks or intensive 3D/machine learning work. Also, the Aorus 15X has a longer battery life, offering more time away from a power source. Give Feedback

The Gigabyte Aorus 15X is very good for gaming and AI, while the Acer Nitro 5 17 is good.
The Acer Nitro 5 17's gaming and 3D performance is bolstered by a high-end Nvidia RTX 3080 GPU and a very high screen refresh rate, enhancing fast-paced visuals, whereas the Gigabyte Aorus 15X, with its newer Nvidia RTX 4070 GPU, delivers powerful graphics at a lower screen refresh rate but offers better screen resolution and quality, optimizing for more detailed and crisp imagery. Both have capable CPUs, but the differences in GPU and screen attributes such as refresh rate and quality make the Acer preferable for ultra-smooth gameplay and the Aorus for high-definition visual experiences.

The Gigabyte Aorus 15X and Acer Nitro 5 17 are both very good for engineering and design, though the Gigabyte Aorus 15X is somewhat better.
The Acer Nitro 5 17 is equipped with a strong AMD Ryzen CPU and Nvidia RTX GPU, which together with its sizable screen and good color coverage make it a reliable choice for engineering and design tasks; however, it's heavier and bulkier, which affects its portability. Alternatively, the Gigabyte Aorus 15X also comes with a high-performing Intel CPU and Nvidia RTX GPU, while offering a higher resolution screen conducive to detailed work, and it's lighter and thinner, enhancing its portability despite having a slightly smaller screen.

The Acer Nitro 5 17 has a better screen than the Gigabyte Aorus 15X for gaming and AI, while the Gigabyte Aorus 15X has a better screen for content creation, and software development.
For general use, both the Acer Nitro 5 17 and Gigabyte Aorus 15X offer pleasing visuals and readability, thanks to their panel types, adequate resolution, and brightness making text and images clear and vibrant. Engineering and design professionals would find the color accuracy and range slightly lacking on these screens, as they don't fully cover professional color gamuts like DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB, affecting the precision necessary for their work. However, for gaming and 3D applications, the lower refresh rates on these laptops could result in less smooth visuals, impacting the fluidity needed for fast-paced interactions and detailed rendering.

How the Acer Nitro 5 17 and the Gigabyte Aorus 15X compare to other laptops
"The Acer Nitro 5 17 is a solid mid-range gamer. The Nitro 5 does not belong to the top group of RTX 3070 notebooks: Compared with the RTX 3070 notebooks tested so far, the computer delivers below-average frame rates - this is due to the 100-watt TGP. The GPU performance can be increased a bit with a firmware update. The device scores with a high level of CPU performance. Throttling is not a concern. CPU and GPU can produce their performance constantly. The laptop heats up moderately under load. The noise development is on the usual class level."
"The Gigabyte Aorus 15X is a strong showing of Raptor Lake and RTX 4000 series. While the Aorus had trouble keeping up in older games like Grand Theft Auto V, it nudged past the competition in Shadow of the Tomb Raider. It also flexed its next-generation muscle in Far Cry 6 and Borderlands 3. While we were impressed with the overall build quality and design of the Aorus 15X, the keyboard lacked good tactile feedback. The display performed well in real-world testing despite its on-paper shortcoming with brightness, but the speakers are lackluster at best."
