For better portability and longer battery life, consider the XPG Xenia 14, which is more compact and lighter than the Acer Aspire 5 17. However, the Acer Aspire 5 17 offers a larger screen, which may be preferable for tasks that benefit from more screen real estate, such as multitasking or media consumption. Both have similar processing power and internal storage. If you need more memory for multitasking or certain applications, the XPG Xenia 14 has more built-in, while the Acer might be chosen for its larger display despite being heavier and less portable. The XPG Xenia 14 has a better screen than the Acer Aspire 5 17 for general use, gaming and AI, and engineering and design.
If you prioritize a clear, crisp display for tasks like browsing, writing, or watching videos, the XPG Xenia 14's higher resolution and brightness make it more suitable than the Acer Aspire 5 17. For engineering and design work that requires color accuracy for projects involving graphic design or video editing, the XPG with its better color gamut coverage will provide more true-to-life colors. However, for gaming and 3D applications where fluid motion is key, neither laptop is ideal due to their lower refresh rates, although the XPG's higher resolution and panel type offer a slightly better visual experience.

The Acer Aspire 5 17, with an Intel i5 CPU and 8GB of RAM, offers a larger 17-inch screen, which is excellent for productivity but less portable due to its larger size and shorter battery life compared to the XPG Xenia 14, which has similar CPU performance, double the RAM at 16GB, more color-accurate and brighter 14-inch screen with higher resolution, all contributing to its higher portability due to its smaller size and longer battery life. While both have sufficient storage and good keyboards, the XPG stands out with its better heat management, contributing to a more comfortable experience during extended use.

The Acer Aspire 5 17 and the XPG Xenia 14 have integrated graphics and 60Hz screen refresh rates which provide a competent but not high-end gaming and 3D performance; the XPG, however, has a slightly better screen quality owing to its higher resolution and aspect ratio.

The XPG Xenia 14 and Acer Aspire 5 17 are both only fair for engineering and design.
The XPG Xenia 14 outperforms the Acer Aspire 5 17 in engineering and design use primarily due to its larger amount of RAM, which translates to better multitasking and handling of complex software, and a higher-quality screen with better resolution and color accuracy, necessary for detailed design work. While the Acer is larger, potentially offering a more expansive workspace, it falls short in screen quality and has less RAM, which may limit performance during demanding engineering tasks compared to the more portable and well-equipped XPG Xenia 14.

How the Acer Aspire 5 17 and the XPG Xenia 14 compare to other laptops
"The Acer Aspire 5 17 laptop shows the expected strengths in the test. Besides the usual high build quality, the configuration convinces in most benchmarks and tests. The combination of CPU, GPU, and RAM is absolutely sufficient for the everyday office and browsing tasks of a laptop. It also renders the odd game passably if the requirements aren't too high. We liked the matte display in the test as well as the fairly manageable dimensions despite the screen size. It can also be used outdoors, even if it's certainly not a laptop designed for mobility."
"The Xenia 14 is a top 14-inch laptop under 1 kg. ADATA isn't exactly known for its laptops and so we weren't expecting much from its first 14-inch Ultrabook. With that said, we're pleasantly surprised by how well the Xenia 14 looks and performs. Not only is it incredibly light, but it has a color accurate 16:10 display, high CPU and GPU performance, easy RAM and SSD serviceability, plenty of port options including Thunderbolt 4, and long battery life. It packs a lot of punch and features considering the size and weight to be better than even the LG Gram series."
