The Acer Aspire 5 17 is more budget-friendly and has a respectable battery life, making it suitable for general use and tasks like web browsing, office applications, and media consumption. It's also lighter, adding to its portability. In contrast, the MSI Stealth GS77 is a premium laptop with higher performance capabilities suited for intensive gaming, 3D rendering, machine learning, and engineering software due to its powerful processor and graphics. It has a superior screen resolution and color accuracy, more memory and storage, and a robust build, but this comes with a higher price tag and additional weight, which impacts portability. The MSI Stealth GS77 is very good for general use, while the Acer Aspire 5 17 is good.
The MSI Stealth GS77 outperforms the Acer Aspire 5 17 in general use due to its superior main processor, greater RAM, and higher screen resolution with better color accuracy, while also offering a larger storage capacity and a higher quality keyboard and sound; however, it is less portable and has a shorter battery life. The Aspire 5, with a lighter design and longer battery life, provides reasonable general-use performance at a potentially lower cost, but with a less powerful CPU, less RAM, a screen with a lower resolution and color space coverage, and a more basic keyboard and speaker system.

The MSI Stealth GS77 is good for gaming and AI, while the Acer Aspire 5 17 is only fair.
The MSI Stealth GS77 outperforms the Acer Aspire 5 17 in gaming and 3D tasks largely because it has a more powerful Nvidia RTX 3070 Ti GPU and a higher screen refresh rate, which are crucial for smooth and detailed graphics performance. In contrast, the Acer Aspire 5 17's GPU is less powerful, being an integrated Intel Iris Xe, and it has a lower screen refresh rate, which means it cannot render fast-paced games as smoothly.

The MSI Stealth GS77 is very good for engineering and design, while the Acer Aspire 5 17 is only fair.
The Acer Aspire 5 17 has an Intel i5 CPU and integrated graphics, which are suitable for basic engineering tasks, but the MSI Stealth GS77 comes with a more powerful Intel i7 CPU and Nvidia RTX 3070 Ti GPU, making it much better suited for demanding engineering and design work such as 3D modeling and simulations. Although the MSI laptop offers better performance, its heavier weight and generally lower battery life compared to the Acer make it less portable for on-the-go use.

The MSI Stealth GS77 has a better screen than the Acer Aspire 5 17 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
For general use, the Acer Aspire 5 offers adequate screen resolution and brightness, making it suitable for everyday tasks like browsing and document editing, while the MSI Stealth GS77's higher resolution and superior brightness provide a more vivid and crisper image. In engineering and design, the MSI Stealth stands out with a broader color spectrum, covering wider color gamuts for more precise color work, whereas the Acer has more limited color accuracy. However, for gaming and 3D applications, both laptops fall short due to their lower refresh rates, which can't deliver the smooth motion desired by gamers and professionals working with fast-moving imagery.

"The Acer Aspire 5 17 laptop shows the expected strengths in the test. Besides the usual high build quality, the configuration convinces in most benchmarks and tests. The combination of CPU, GPU, and RAM is absolutely sufficient for the everyday office and browsing tasks of a laptop. It also renders the odd game passably if the requirements aren't too high. We liked the matte display in the test as well as the fairly manageable dimensions despite the screen size. It can also be used outdoors, even if it's certainly not a laptop designed for mobility."
"The MSI Stealth GS77 is better than the GS76... mostly. The GS77 is a few steps forward and a few steps back from the GS76. Improvements are numerous including the stronger and more rigid skeleton, higher resolution webcam, larger clickpad, easier serviceability, relatively similar battery runtimes, newer display options, and higher performance at about the same TDP and TGP levels as before. CPU performance is better than expected even when compared to other laptops with Core i7 or Core i9 processors. The newer model feels more substantial than the outgoing one for higher quality impressions as well."
