For tasks requiring portability and battery life, such as general use or work on the go, the Acer Aspire 5 17 may suit you as it is lighter and has longer battery life. However, if you need better performance for 3D rendering, machine learning, or engineering software, the MSI Katana 15 offers more storage, higher RAM, and a significantly more powerful GPU for tasks that are graphics and processing-intensive. While the MSI Katana 15 also has a high refresh rate suitable for smoother gaming, it is more expensive and slightly heavier, resulting in lower portability and shorter battery life. Both share common features like a backlit keyboard, IPS display, and Windows 11 Home, but the MSI stands out with additional features like a higher-quality keyboard and an RGB backlit keyboard for gamers. When considering laptops for general use, the Acer Aspire 5 17 and MSI Katana 15's display qualities such as panel type, resolution, and brightness are adequate, offering a decent viewing experience for everyday tasks. However, for engineering and design purposes, these models lack the wider color gamuts like DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB, which are essential for precise color work and high-quality visual outputs. In terms of gaming and 3D applications, the lower refresh rates on both models hinder a smooth visual experience, which is critical for fast-paced action and detailed 3D rendering.

How the Acer Aspire 5 17 and the MSI Katana 15 compare to other laptops
"The Acer Aspire 5 17 laptop shows the expected strengths in the test. Besides the usual high build quality, the configuration convinces in most benchmarks and tests. The combination of CPU, GPU, and RAM is absolutely sufficient for the everyday office and browsing tasks of a laptop. It also renders the odd game passably if the requirements aren't too high. We liked the matte display in the test as well as the fairly manageable dimensions despite the screen size. It can also be used outdoors, even if it's certainly not a laptop designed for mobility."
"The MSI Katana 15 B12 combines a Gen12 CPU with an RTX 4050, which is actually not a bad idea for a budget gamer. The CPU is anything but bad and the GPU in the Katana 15 proves to be significantly more efficient than last year's models. However, our main point of criticism for budget gamers is the price: while you can get budget laptops with RTX 3060 from around US$800, you pay a whole US$1,499.99 here! The efficiency advantages of the RTX 4050 do not justify this price premium."
