If you're looking for value and don't mind a larger, less portable laptop, the Acer Aspire 5 17 could be a good choice with its larger screen and lower price. However, if you require a more robust, compact laptop with potentially stronger build quality and better performance for professional tasks, the Lenovo ThinkPad X13 is worth considering, despite the higher cost. The ThinkPad usually offers superior keyboard experience and durability, which is beneficial for frequent travelers or business users, while Acer provides a budget-friendly option for everyday use or students. The Lenovo ThinkPad X13 is very good for general use, while the Acer Aspire 5 17 is good.
The Acer Aspire 5 17, with its larger screen, is more comfortable for extended viewing and may have more CPU and RAM capacity which is great for multitasking, but it's heavier and less portable; whereas the Lenovo ThinkPad X13, though typically offering excellent CPU performance and sufficient RAM for everyday tasks, boasts superior portability with its smaller size and typically longer battery life, which enhances its appeal for users on the go. While both have high-quality keyboards and ample storage, the ThinkPad often edges ahead with better durability and manageability of operating noise and heat.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X13 is very good for engineering and design, while the Acer Aspire 5 17 is only fair.
The Acer Aspire 5 17 has a capable CPU and enough RAM for basic engineering tasks, but its GPU and screen quality may not handle advanced design work as smoothly, whereas the Lenovo ThinkPad X13 offers stronger CPU, more RAM, and superior GPU and screen quality, making it more suitable for demanding engineering and design applications. While the ThinkPad X13 boasts a better keyboard and is more portable, both may have comparable speaker quality and operating noise levels which are less critical to engineering and design performance than the core specifications.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X13 has a better screen than the Acer Aspire 5 17 for general use, gaming and AI, engineering and design, content creation, and software development.
The Acer Aspire 5's screen provides adequate resolution and brightness for everyday tasks and office work, but its limited color gamut and modest refresh rate are not optimal for color-sensitive work in engineering and design, or the fast frame rates required in gaming and 3D applications. The Lenovo ThinkPad X13 offers a higher-quality display with better brightness and resolution, which enhances general and professional engineering use, along with more accurate color reproduction, although its refresh rate is still not ideal for the demands of high-end gaming and 3D work. Both laptops fall short for gaming and 3D because faster refresh rates are critical for smooth visuals in these scenarios, and neither model is designed with this as a priority.

How the Acer Aspire 5 17 and the Lenovo ThinkPad X13 compare to other laptops
"The Acer Aspire 5 17 laptop shows the expected strengths in the test. Besides the usual high build quality, the configuration convinces in most benchmarks and tests. The combination of CPU, GPU, and RAM is absolutely sufficient for the everyday office and browsing tasks of a laptop. It also renders the odd game passably if the requirements aren't too high. We liked the matte display in the test as well as the fairly manageable dimensions despite the screen size. It can also be used outdoors, even if it's certainly not a laptop designed for mobility."
"The Lenovo ThinkPad X13 G4 has very good input devices, a wide array of security features and ports as well as 5G in the tested configuration. It is more compact and lightweight compared with its predecessor, and it has improved speakers and a slightly better webcam. On the other hand, the fan is more annoying and the performance is barely improved. The battery is worse as well, but this is primarily attributable to the OLED screen - if this aspect is important, buyers should choose the IPS Low Power LCD."
