The Acer Aspire 5 17 is generally more expensive but offers a larger screen and a bit more battery capacity, which could suit those looking for a more immersive visual experience or longer unplugged usage. However, it's heavier, making it less ideal if you prioritize portability. If you're looking for a more budget-friendly and portable option, the HP 14" Laptop, being lighter and less costly, may fit your needs, especially for carrying around daily. Both have similar main processors and RAM, but the Acer has more storage. Neither is designed for intensive gaming, but both can handle general use effectively. Give Feedback

The Acer Aspire 5 17 is good for general use, while the HP 14" Laptop is only fair.
The Acer Aspire 5 17 is favored for general use due to its superior heat management and larger screen with good color reproduction, albeit at the expense of being less portable and having a lower battery life compared to the HP 14" Laptop, which offers better battery life and portability but falls short with less impressive heat management and a smaller screen that might not be as suitable for multitasking or entertainment.

The Acer Aspire 5 17 and HP 14" Laptop are both only fair for engineering and design, though the Acer Aspire 5 17 is somewhat better.
The Acer Aspire 5 17 offers a fair performance for engineering and design due to its capable Intel CPU, integrated graphics, sufficient RAM, and a larger IPS display with standard resolution, but it may fall short for more intense graphics tasks and is less portable due to its size. The HP 14" Laptop, while slightly more portable, shares similar RAM and CPU specifications with integrated AMD graphics and a standard resolution IPS screen, thus delivering reasonable performance for engineering and design tasks, but it could also struggle with demanding graphics operations.

The Acer Aspire 5 17 has a better screen than the HP 14" Laptop for software development, while the HP 14" Laptop has a better screen for engineering and design.
If you primarily use your laptop for browsing, watching videos, and document editing, both the Acer Aspire 5 17 and the HP 14" laptop offer displays that are sufficiently clear and bright for these tasks. However, for engineering and design work which often requires precise color representation, neither laptop provides the wide color gamuts necessary for the most accurate visuals. Additionally, neither is ideal for gaming and 3D applications due to their lower refresh rates and modest resolutions, leading to less fluid motion and detail in fast-paced scenes or complex models.

The Acer Aspire 5 17 and HP 14" Laptop are both fair for gaming and 3D due to their integrated graphics chips, Intel i5-1335U Iris Xe and AMD Ryzen 5 5500U Vega 7 respectively, which can handle light gaming and some 3D tasks but might struggle with more demanding titles or workloads. Moreover, both laptops feature a standard 60Hz screen refresh rate, which is adequate for casual gaming but isn't designed for the high frame rates sought after by serious gamers.

How the Acer Aspire 5 17 and the HP 14" Laptop compare to other laptops
"The Acer Aspire 5 17 laptop shows the expected strengths in the test. Besides the usual high build quality, the configuration convinces in most benchmarks and tests. The combination of CPU, GPU, and RAM is absolutely sufficient for the everyday office and browsing tasks of a laptop. It also renders the odd game passably if the requirements aren't too high. We liked the matte display in the test as well as the fairly manageable dimensions despite the screen size. It can also be used outdoors, even if it's certainly not a laptop designed for mobility."
"This feels like an ideal laptop for someone who doesn’t want to spend a lot of money on a laptop and isn’t too bothered by things like build quality or construction. It’s a laptop that will be used to pay bills, keep track of expenses, do some online shopping, and will be tucked away in a spare bedroom/home office. It’s an appliance designed to do a job without fuss. It’s not a premium experience—the materials do feel a little cheap, the display won’t exactly wow you, and the battery life is nothing to write home about, especially if you’ve used more expensive devices. But overall it’s not too shabby, especially for the price."
