The Acer Aspire 5 17 is less expensive and offers more storage out of the box, a larger 17.3-inch screen, and has a number pad. It is heavier and thus less portable than the Framework Laptop 13 which has a higher price, a smaller 13.5-inch screen with a higher resolution and a unique 3:2 aspect ratio, is lighter in weight, and has more port-friendly options like USB-C charging and additional USB-C ports. The Framework is also engineered to be more easily upgradeable and repairable. Both have similar RAM, processors, and battery life, making them capable for general use and light engineering tasks. How the Acer Aspire 5 17 and the Framework Laptop 13 (2023) compare to other laptops
"The Acer Aspire 5 17 laptop shows the expected strengths in the test. Besides the usual high build quality, the configuration convinces in most benchmarks and tests. The combination of CPU, GPU, and RAM is absolutely sufficient for the everyday office and browsing tasks of a laptop. It also renders the odd game passably if the requirements aren't too high. We liked the matte display in the test as well as the fairly manageable dimensions despite the screen size. It can also be used outdoors, even if it's certainly not a laptop designed for mobility."
"If you’re thinking of investing in your first Framework, now is the time. The kinks and rough edges have all been smoothed out and this is a very nice machine with a bright, upgradable future. The only reason I can think of to wait is the AMD model, which I’ll be sure to test as soon as I can get my hands on one."
