The Acer Aspire 5 17 offers higher graphics performance and a larger 17-inch display which is more suitable for multimedia and productivity, but it's less portable due to its size and weight. Conversely, the Dell Latitude 14 7490 is a more budget-friendly option with a modest performance suitable for everyday tasks and better portability due to its smaller 14-inch screen and lighter weight. If your work involves graphics or you prefer a larger screen and don't mind the additional expense and decreased mobility, the Acer might be a good choice. If you prioritize cost savings, portability, and sufficient performance for general use, the Dell Latitude would serve you well. Give Feedback

The Dell Latitude 14 7490 has a better screen than the Acer Aspire 5 17 for general use, gaming and AI, and engineering and design.
The Acer Aspire 5 17's screen may not offer the necessary sharpness and clarity for high-end gaming or 3D tasks due to its limited resolution and refresh rate, though it is adequate for everyday tasks like browsing and document editing. In contrast, the Dell Latitude 14 7490 provides a more robust visual experience for engineering and design with better color accuracy and wider color gamuts, which is essential for precise work in those fields. However, like the Acer, the Dell also falls short for gaming and 3D applications, as its refresh rate isn’t high enough to match the smooth visuals demanded by these activities.

Although they have very similar scores, PerfectRec considers Acer Aspire 5 17 to be only fair for gaming and AI, while the Dell Latitude 14 7490 is poor.
The Acer Aspire 5 17 with an integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics card and the Dell Latitude 14 7490 with Intel UHD Graphics 620 provide adequate, but not high-end, gaming and 3D performance, which is held back by their standard 60Hz refresh rate screens, influencing the smoothness of fast-paced visuals. The Acer's larger screen size is preferable for immersive gaming, although both systems are somewhat limited by their middle-of-the-road CPUs and screen quality, which impact game playability and visual fidelity.

The Acer Aspire 5 17 and Dell Latitude 14 7490 are both only fair for engineering and design.
The Acer Aspire 5 17, with its Intel i5 CPU and Iris Xe GPU, offers decent power for engineering and design but it's limited by 8 GB of RAM and a standard screen quality – it does, however, provide a large 17-inch display for easier viewing. In contrast, the Dell Latitude 14 7490 has a more powerful Intel i7 CPU, an adequate GPU for most tasks, and doubles the RAM, which improves multitasking and complex projects; its 14-inch touchscreen offers quality visuals and it's lighter, enhancing portability.

How the Acer Aspire 5 17 and the Dell Latitude 14 7490 compare to other laptops
"The Acer Aspire 5 17 laptop shows the expected strengths in the test. Besides the usual high build quality, the configuration convinces in most benchmarks and tests. The combination of CPU, GPU, and RAM is absolutely sufficient for the everyday office and browsing tasks of a laptop. It also renders the odd game passably if the requirements aren't too high. We liked the matte display in the test as well as the fairly manageable dimensions despite the screen size. It can also be used outdoors, even if it's certainly not a laptop designed for mobility."
"The Dell Latitude 7490's got the speed you need (and then some), a keyboard that's comfortable enough for writing all day long and a battery that supports a full 8-hour workday. If only the display were brighter and it managed heat better. If you need every minute of battery life you can get, the extended-battery version of the Lenovo ThinkPad T480 lasts 8 hours longer than the Latitude 7490, but its display is much less colorful."
