When choosing between the Acer Aspire 5 17 and the Dell Inspiron 15 3511, consider that the Acer has a larger screen which is great for productivity and entertainment but makes it less portable than the smaller Dell. The Dell offers more storage and a significantly larger amount of RAM, which is beneficial for multitasking and data-intensive tasks but comes with a slightly smaller battery which could impact its battery life. If portability and a tighter budget are your main concerns, the Dell might be a better fit, whereas the Acer with its larger display and somewhat higher cost is well-suited for those prioritizing screen real estate and a slightly better battery capacity. The Acer Aspire 5 17 has a better screen than the Dell Inspiron 15 3511 for general use, while the Dell Inspiron 15 3511 has a better screen for software development.
For general use, both the Acer Aspire 5 17 and the Dell Inspiron 15 3511 provide screens that offer adequate resolution and brightness, but they may lack the sharpness and color clarity found in higher-end panels. In engineering and design, these laptops deliver fair performance as they can render projects with reasonable accuracy, though they fall short in displaying the full spectrum of colors that professionals might need for precise color work. Gamers and 3D designers, however, would find the screens lacking due to moderate resolutions and lower refresh rates, which don't support the most fluid motion or the sharpest imagery required for an optimal experience.

How the Acer Aspire 5 17 and the Dell Inspiron 15 3511 compare to other laptops
"The Acer Aspire 5 17 laptop shows the expected strengths in the test. Besides the usual high build quality, the configuration convinces in most benchmarks and tests. The combination of CPU, GPU, and RAM is absolutely sufficient for the everyday office and browsing tasks of a laptop. It also renders the odd game passably if the requirements aren't too high. We liked the matte display in the test as well as the fairly manageable dimensions despite the screen size. It can also be used outdoors, even if it's certainly not a laptop designed for mobility."
"The Dell Inspiron 15 3000 (3511) is a solid, if unremarkable, 15-inch budget laptop. It improves on many of the issues we had with the previous 3505 model, and with the inclusion of Windows 11, the 3511 is already a step above its competition. The lack of a USB-C port, the subpar speakers, and the dim display are drawbacks to factor in, but it's still one of the better 15-inch budget laptops on the market, especially when you consider it's under $400."
